Volkswagen Passenger Cars Grows January To April Deliveries By 11.2 Per Cent To 1.66 Million Vehicles
WOLFSBURG, GERMANY – May 11, 2011: Vehicle deliveries by the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand grew further in the first four months of this year to 1.66 (January – April 2010: 1.49; +11.2 per cent) million units. The brand delivered 429,200 (April 2010: 377,800; +13.6 per cent) vehicles to customers in the month of April. “Deliveries by the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand continue to develop well. Our attractive, eco-friendly model range is being well received by our customers all over the world,” Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, commented in Wolfsburg on Tuesday.
Volkswagen Passenger Cars reported growth in the Asia / Pacific region, delivering 639,200 (530,800; +20.4 per cent) vehicles there, of which 578,200 (494,000; +17.0 per cent) units were handed over in China, the largest single market. The situation in India was also extremely positive, with 24,800 (2,800) vehicles delivered to customers in the period to April, almost nine times as many as during the comparable prior-year period.
Overall, deliveries in Europe also continued to develop well, with Volkswagen Passenger Cars handing over 567,100 (547,000; +3.7 per cent) models to customers in the first four months. The brand reported a rise in the Central and East European region: 53,900 (39,200; +37.7 per cent) units were delivered there from January to April. The brand almost doubled deliveries in the single market of Russia, handing over 24,900 (12,800; +93.8 per cent) units. Volkswagen Passenger Cars also grew deliveries in North America to 149,400 (127,600; +17.1 per cent) units.
