DETROIT--April 18, 2011:

  • Grace Lieblein appointed president and managing director of GM do Brasil
  • Ernesto Hernandez appointed president and managing director of GM de Mexico

GM today announced new leaders for its operations in Brazil and Mexico, effective June 1. Grace D. Lieblein, 50, has been named president and managing director of GM do Brasil. Ernesto Hernandez, 53, has been named president and managing director of GM de Mexico.

Lieblein, who led GM de Mexico since December 2008, replaces Denise Johnson, who left the company earlier this year. Lieblein will report to Jaime Ardila, president, South America.

"We are honored that Grace will lead GM's operations in Brazil, one of the largest markets for General Motors. Her extraordinary leadership skills will allow us to further improve GM's position in the country," said Ardila.

Hernandez has been vice president, vehicle sales, service and marketing, at GM de Mexico. In his new role, Hernandez will report to Mark Reuss, president, North America.

"Grace Lieblein has done an outstanding job leading GM in Mexico, managing through an incredibly difficult period during the global economic crisis and driving the operations back toward profitability. She has prepared a highly capable successor in Ernesto Hernandez, ensuring a smooth transition and the retention of key industry and consumer relationships in Mexico," said Reuss.
