Holden Calls On Facebook Friends To Pledge To Drive Safely This Easter
VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA – April 15, 2011:Holden is urging Australian drivers to show their commitment to reducing the road toll this Easter by taking an online pledge to drive safely over the holiday period.
The nationwide campaign, to be run on social network platforms Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, enables users to click to pledge that they will drive safely over Easter, and dedicate their safe driving to family members, friends or anyone in their social network.
Pledging to drive safely to launch the campaign, Holden Managing Director, Mike Devereux said social media was a critical way to share the road safety message around road safety, particularly for younger drivers.
“We’re all looking forward to an extended Easter break this year, but that’s going to mean Australian roads will be busier than ever. So we’re asking everyone to pledge to drive safely for the people they care about on Facebook and Twitter.
“Putting safer cars on the road is just part of the solution to reducing the road toll, but driver behaviour plays a critical role. By encouraging safer driving, we hope we can help to make this a happy Easter holiday for us all.”
According to TAC Victoria, addressing issues include drink-driving, speeding, fatigue and young drivers are all factors in improving outcomes around road safety. Furthermore, the TAC estimates that 30 per cent of all road deaths and serious injuries can be attributed to speed, costing the Victorian community about $1 billion each year.
