Volkswagen Passenger Cars Brand Quarterly Deliveries Top 1.2 Million Vehicles for First Time

BOTANY, AUSTRALIA – April 14, 2011: There was a marked increase in deliveries by the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand during the first three months of the year, with the brand delivering 1.23 (January March 2010: 1.11; +10.4 percent) million cars for the first time in one quarter. The brand also reported record deliveries for the month of March: for the first time, more than 468,000 (March 2010: 446,000; +4.9 percent) vehicles were handed over to customers. “Deliveries by the Volkswagen brand have developed extremely well. Gains were particularly strong on emerging markets,” Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, commented in Wolfsburg on Wednesday.

Volkswagen Passenger Cars recorded growth in the Asia / Pacific region, particularly in the largest single market of China (including Hong Kong); 429,500 (362,600; +18.5 percent) vehicles were delivered to customers there in the period January - March. First-quarter developments were also particularly successful in India, where deliveries increased more than tenfold to 18,200 (1,700) units.

The brand also reported a rise in deliveries in the Central and Eastern Europe region, handing over 37,200 (27,300; +36.0 percent) vehicles there in the period January - March. The brand delivered 16,800 (8,500; +96.5 percent) units in the single market of Russia, almost double the number of cars for the same period in 2010. There was a slight positive trend in deliveries in Europe, where Volkswagen Passenger Cars handed over 420,400 (408,500; +2.9 percent) units to customers. The brand grew deliveries in the North America region to 106,300 (92,000; +15.5 percent) vehicles.
