JUPITER, April 12, 2011: Some of the most powerful 3,000-horsepower, pro modified drag racing machines exceeding 200 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds, take center stage in eighth-mile competition at Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR) on April 15-16.
Making its Florida debut, the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) selected Palm Beach International Raceway as the second stop on the 2011 tour. The nine-race series features six drag racing classes in a must-see event. The competition is fierce as more than 100 race teams are scheduled to roll into the pits at PBIR.
This weekend’s schedule includes three qualifying rounds on Friday with Pro Extreme, Pro Nitrous, Extreme 10.5, Pro Extreme Motorcycle, Extreme Pro Stock and Pro Jr. Dragsters. On Saturday, spectators can watch the fourth qualifying session followed by final eliminations.
In addition to the drag racing competition, fans will see exhibition runs by the Police Interceptor Jet Car and Summit Motorsports “Bigfoot” Monster Truck on both Friday and Saturday.
As the second major event in April for the Florida track, Palm Beach International Raceway is preparing for thousands of race fans this weekend.
“We’re excited to host our first ADRL event at PBIR,” said Jason Rittenberry, President and CEO, Palm Beach International Raceway. “The 2011 ADRL tour is packed with some of the fastest drag racing competition in the eighth-mile. We expect to see some first-time PBIR visitors this weekend and we’re looking forward to a great show both on the track and throughout the facility.”
Loxahatchee, FL, native Kim Morrell, the defending Pro Extreme Motorcycle World Champion, will compete this weekend at PBIR. Morrell is the first female champion in ADRL history and has posted an impressive 4.02-second pass at nearly 180 miles per hour in the eighth-mile on her Pro Extreme Motorcycle.
