MELBOURNE – April 8, 2011: “Saab has come along way in the last 14 months. We’ve restructured our operations in Sweden and around the world, we’ve introduced new ways of working, entered new markets and forged new business partnerships.”

Victor Muller, Saab Automobile Chairman.

On 23rd February 2010 Saab became a newly independent company. Once again, Saab is pushing the boundaries of conventional automotive thinking. This global reinvigoration is reflected in both the creation of Saab Cars Australia and the release of the all new Saab 9-5.

“Today is no ordinary day. The 7th April Australian launch of the new Saab 9-5 highlights the power of having more freedom to act faster in an ever-changing world. It also demonstrates our ability to deliver a true alternative to the big Europeans in the premium segment. From now on, Saab will be even more Saab.” Stephen Nicholls, Managing Director, Saab Cars Australia.

The all new Saab 9-5. Anything but ordinary.

“We have created an advanced and very distinctive product by leveraging the power of our roots in key areas such as progressive Scandinavian design, sporty driving and responsible performance. The new 9-5 delivers in all these respects, as will every future product from Saab.” Jan Åke Jonsson, Saab Automobile CEO.

The launch of the new Saab 9-5 signals the start of a new era for the Saab brand. Sleek, sophisticated and unmistakably Saab, it combines standout looks with advanced technologies and brings a fresh alternative choice to the premium sedan segment.

The clean, sculpted shape embraces the purity of Scandinavian design and its dramatic wraparound window graphic echoes Saab’s aviation heritage. With styling inspired by the award-winning Aero X concept and a muscular, low-slung stance, the new Saab 9-5 heralds the introduction of a bold, more expressive design language.

In Australia for the launch, Simon Padian, Saab Brand Design Chief, expressed the clarity of Saab’s vision.

“Forward-looking design that doesn’t ignore where it is coming from-that sums up the visual appeal of the car. We are adopting a new vocabulary to tell the story of our brand. It gives a fresh, very modern expression to some of our classic design cues. We pushed out the boundaries of Saab design with the Aero X concept. And the new 9-5 shows how we are bringing this more assertive look to our products.”

Scandinavian simplicity has never been this advanced.

Built at Saab’s home in Trollhättan, the new 9-5 is the most technically advanced Saab ever.

The array of high-tech features on offer includes an aircraft-like head-up information display (Pilot HUD), adaptive lighting (Bi-Xenon Smart Beam), Saab DriveSense™ adaptive chassis with real-time damping control, touchscreen navigation as standard, dynamic parking assistance and Saab XWD™ with eLSD.

The all-turbo powertrain line-up brings together Saab’s expertise in rightsize engine turbocharging with state-of-the-art technologies. In fact, the fuel efficiency of the diesel model qualifies Australian drivers for the higher Luxury Car Tax threshold.

Other exciting additions to the new Saab 9-5 range are scheduled for release later this year.

Now is the time to experience a different perspective.
