Hyundai i30 Hits The Tarmac In Targa Tasmania
SYDNEY – April 5, 2011: Hyundai Motor Company Australia will hit the tarmac in the multi award winning i30 CRDi SX turbo diesel for the second year with a ‘factory’ entrant in the 2011 Targa Tasmania Rally.
Competing in the Modern class, the Hyundai i30 will be competitive in this year’s event.
Team Hyundai Rallye will be lead by veteran rally driver Mick Gillett, with support from his navigating partner of twenty years, Harvey Smith.
With a successful history in the NSW Rally Championships, including the last five years driving Hyundai vehicles, the team competed in the 2010 Australian Rally Championship in the i30 with winning the ‘Showroom’ class and consistent results throughout the season. In 2011 Team Hyundai Rallye will race with factory backing from the Hyundai Genuine Parts and Accessories division of Hyundai Motor Company Australia.
2011 is the first year the team of Gillett & Smith have competed in the Targa Tasmania series. Gillett says the i30 CRDi turbo diesel proved itself to be the most fuel efficient vehicle in the ARC 2010 competition and is perfectly suited to his driving style and the challenging course.
“After last season in the ARC I know the i30 inside and out, it performed without a hitch last year,” said Gillett. “It was 100% reliable, fuel efficient and I know it won’t disappoint.”
The i30 CRDi SX turbo diesel will run as production standard, apart from upgraded brake pads, harder suspension to suit the terrain and safety requirement modifications to meet competition regulations. The i30 is fitted with Genuine Hyundai Accessories including 17” alloy wheels and a rear spoiler.
