JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals Take Center Stage

BELLE ROSE, March 19, 2011: The JEGS Cajun NHRA SPORTSnationals got under way Friday at No Problem Raceway with a big contingent from Team JEGS among the whopping 510 cars entered in the event.

Qualifying dominated Friday's racing, but a few classes held started class eliminations.

Jerry Emmons made his way past the fourth round of Stock Eliminator class racing late in the evening by beating Jeff Adkinson. Emmons cut a .003 second light to start a pass of 10.349 seconds at 126.67 mph to Adkinson's 10.377 at 117.08 mph with a .052 light.

In Super Stock, No. 1 qualifier Jerry Silveus made it through three rounds of the bracket with a highlight victory over Todd Frantz. Silveus cruised through with a 9.247 second pass at 141.47 mph. Frantz encountered trouble and coasted through with a 15.511 at 54.91 mph.

Team JEGS' Mike Coughlin was No. 6 in Top Sportsman qualifying with a 6.677 at 209.85 mph. His brother Jeg Jr., sister-in-law-to-be Samantha Kenny, and nephew Troy Jr. all made passes in Super Comp, while another nephew, Jack, got off to a very quick start in his Junior Dragster.

Racing continues Saturday and Sunday at No Problem Raceway. Gates open at 8 a.m. each day with action kicking off at 9 a.m. Saturday’s action will see final qualifying in Comp Eliminator, Top Sportsman, and Top Dragster along with a variety of specialty race activities.
