AURORA, Ill., March 9, 2011 -- Gas prices throughout Illinois and Indiana continue to climb with very steep rates in March with Illinois and northern Indiana averages reaching $3.62 and $3.48 respectively, according to AAA Chicago's most recent Fuel Gauge Report. In Illinois, regular unleaded gasoline has increased $.36 during the past month and prices are $.83 higher per gallon than last year.

In northern Indiana, gas prices average $3.48, which is up 33 cents from February 2011 and up $.77 from March 2010.

"While gas prices have been the highest on record for this time of year, consumers should get used to paying these higher prices as with spring comes a switch to a summer blend of gasoline and another rise in gas prices," said Beth Mosher, director of public affairs for AAA Chicago.
