TOKYO--February 25, 2011: The Associated Press reported that Toyota Motor Corp. said Friday its global production fell for the fifth straight month in January due to slumping sales in Japan.
The world's No. 1 automaker said its worldwide production declined 4.7 percent year-on-year to 613,831 vehicles last month.
Toyota said the decline was due to weak demand in Japan. Toyota's sales have been falling in Japan after government subsidies for green cars, including Toyota's popular Prius hybrid, expired in September 2010.
Its auto production in Japan tumbled 13 percent to 234,045 vehicles in January.
