Video Celebrates 20th Anniversary of SAE International's Award-Winning A World in Motion Program
WARRENDALE, Pa.--February 16, 2011: -- SAE International's award-winning, science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education program, A World in Motion(AWIM),celebrates its 20th anniversary, having touched the lives of millions of school students.
The AWIM curriculum offers interdisciplinary, project-based learning to students in kindergarten through high school. With 10 interactive curricula called "challenges," AWIM allows students to participate in an "engineering design experience" -- a problem-solving process taught at many engineering schools and used by engineering design teams working in the field. Challenges include designing and constructing a JetToy, Skimmer or Gravity Cruiser, and more sophisticated fuel cell, electronic and motorized cars.
Since the program's inception:
- More than four million students have participated in the AWIM program.
- Over 25,000 professionals have contributed time as AWIM classroom volunteers.
- SAE International has distributed more than 70,000 AWIM kits.
- AWIM has won numerous national and regional awards including The National Science Board's 2008 Public Service Award
