In the opening round of the GP2 Asia Series, just ended at the Yas
Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, Jules Bianchi took the win in the first of two
races taking place this week.

The Lotus Art team youngster got the jump on
pole man, France’s Romain Grosjean in the DAMS car and then managed
the advantage well to take the win, finishing almost seven seconds ahead of
his fellow countryman. Third place went to Italy’s Davide Valsecchi
at the wheel of the Air Asia car, at the end of an incident packed race
that saw no less than eight of the twenty six cars retire.
The French
driver and Ferrari Driver Academy student was very pleased. “I got a
good start and immediately tried to keep Grosjean behind me, even if at the
start it was not easy because I did not want to take any risks. Towards the
end, I managed to pull out a big lead and take a win that was particularly
sweet as I had not won since 2009,” said Bianchi, who will also fill
the role of development driver this season for the Ferrari Formula 1 team.
The first of the three Asian GP2 rounds, which precedes the GP2 series
itself, ends tomorrow with the second race that starts at 16.50 local
time.
