Delaware, Jan. 26, 2011: Makenna Brown, the granddaughter of Jeg Coughlin Sr. and his wife Sue, raced less than half a season in the Division 3 Junior Dragster series, but she did enough to garner Rookie of the Year honors, following the legacy set out by the famous Coughlin racing clan.
Brown established herself at her first event, racing a yellow-and-black JEGS-themed rail to victory at her home track of National Trail Raceway near Columbus, Ohio. She repeated the feat a month later in her first Division 3 event -- the Buckeye Fuel Wars -- with another trip to the Winner's Circle.
She later added a runner-up result to her ledger and cut a perfect .500 light at Kil-kare Dragway in early October. Overall, after racing in just seven of 15 points meets, Brown finished the year in eighth place.
