DAYTONA BEACH, January 9, 2011: GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing, and drivers Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty, turned in a solid opening day of work Friday at the Roar Before the Rolex 24 test at Daytona International Speedway (DIS) where the team and drivers focused primarily on preparations for the 49th Rolex 24 At Daytona, January 27 – 30, in the GAINSCO Auto Insurance Chevrolet Riley.

“We had a lot of things and new pieces on the car that needed to be shook down, as well as bedding brakes and getting stuff prepped for the actual race, so we got a lot of that done today,” Fogarty said. “We were able to start focusing on the setup towards the end and I think we made some progress, but this is all preparation for the race. There’s a lot more to the Rolex 24 than the pace.”

The top time for the No. 99 GAINSCO “Red Dragon” was Gurney’s morning practice lap of 1:42.120 (125.499 mph), which ranked sixth in that session. The top afternoon time of 1:42.240 (125.352 mph) was the ninth quickest in that practice.

“We weren’t too focused on what everyone else was doing,” Gurney said. “We were just trying to get through our program and get a lot of things done for the race. We are going to try and get a comfortable setup for everybody that can run in all conditions.”
