TULLAMARINE, AUSTRALIA – December 20, 2010: Honda Australia’s spare parts are used by Wildlife Victoria to support animals in its care.

Over 186 cubic meters of obsolete Honda car parts have been recycled and re-used by various organisations, with part of the recycled material offered to Wildlife Victoria for a range of animal welfare initiatives.

Honda dashboards, tyres, engines, windscreen wipers, car seat covers, mats, electronics and cardboard are recycled by Australian Composite Technology (ACT), with the recycled textiles provided to Wildlife Victoria.

Honda seat covers are being used to make pouches for joeys and other injured wildlife, while Honda floor mats are used for cage lining, offering a holistic and clean recycling solution, enabling Wildlife Victoria to spend their funds on animal rescue and rehabilitation.

“Honda is committed to environmental protection and maintaining sustainable operations and we are continuing our industry-leading efforts to address environmental challenges through our association with Australian Composite Technology,” said Honda Australia’s Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Satoshi Matsuzawa.

Since 2008, Honda’s partnership with ACT has seen its obsolete parts recycled for a range of community initiatives each year.

A plastics recycling and manufacturing company, ACT reprocesses co-mingled industrial waste plastic in large volumes to manufacture composite fence posts, bollards and other products in commercial volumes, offering both community and environmental benefits.

ACT advised that Wildlife Victoria “was extremely grateful for the donation and believed this was a thoughtful and innovative recycling initiative providing the Wildlife Victoria carers with fantastic materials to use with good outcomes for the animals in their care”.

ACT also applauded Honda Australia for “the enthusiasm and readiness shown by Honda Australia to embrace a different recycling outcome that provided a true benefit to Wildlife Victoria”.
