MILTON KEYNES, UNITED KINGDOM – November 15, 2010: An expert team of Mercedes-Benz technicians is to go ‘brain to brain’ against their counterparts from across the world in the Mercedes-Benz International TechMaster 2010 Competition.

Taking place between 17-18th November and held at the Global Training Centre of Mercedes-Benz in Stuttgart, the event will crown one country’s team of technicians as the ‘best of the best’ when it comes to all things relating to repair and maintenance of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars.

The Mercedes-Benz UK team, sponsored by WürthUK Ltd, consists of Howard Storey, Service Team Manager, Steven Sheen, Diagnostic Technician, Cullen Sleep, Chassis Systems Technician, Jeff Harper, Powertrain Systems Technician, and Simon Huckle, Maintenance Technician. All are based at Mercedes-Benz Brentford and will be accompanied to the home of Mercedes-Benz by their Coach from Mercedes-Benz UK, Richard Share.

The team sealed their place in the international contest after winning the Mercedes-Benz UK TechMaster 2009 competition. Sponsored by WürthUK Ltd and consisting of a team from each of the 33 Mercedes-Benz Official Workshop market areas, this tournament was launched as part of Mercedes-Benz UK’s commitment to customer service. As well as encouraging pride in performance and improving the quality of After Sales service, the competition recognised and rewarded the prestige car company’s hard working professionals.

As with the UK contest, the International TechMaster competition will see the team judged in three areas – a 90-minute practical examination, 90-minute knowledge test and a ‘skills circle’, the latter focusing on the basic skills of the job profiles from participants’ daily workshop routine. Entrants undergo individual and team-based assessments with marks being awarded by a global training committee judging panel.

In preparation, the team has undergone two weeks of intensive training at Mercedes-Benz UK in Milton Keynes, which has involved running through mock competitions and testing their technical and customer service skills.

Tom Kirkham, Service Marketing Executive, Mercedes-Benz UK, said: “The TechMaster UK competition was a phenomenal success and our winning team completed a whole host of arduous tasks to prove that not only are they the best Mercedes-Benz technicians in the country but that they also stand a very good chance of being voted the best in the world too.

“We wish them the very best in the competition and are proud that the skills and best practise that they have learnt through being an invaluable part of the Mercedes-Benz Official Workshop Network has made them truly world-class in their industry.”
