Josh Richards and Darrell Lanigan are ready to conclude their dramatic
chase for the 2010 World of Outlaws Late Model Series championship on
Nov. 4-6 during the Lowes Foods World of Outlaws World Finals at The
Dirt Track at Charlotte.
The question is: who has the advantage at the high-banked,
four-tenths-mile oval?
The statistics would seem to favor Richards, the 22-year-old sensation
from Shinnston, W.Va., who leads the WoO LMS standings by 22 points
over Union, Ky.’s Lanigan entering the season-ending World Finals
spectacular. Richards has three wins, seven top-five and 10 top-10
finishes in the 13 WoO LMS events contested since 2007 at The Dirt
Track, while Lanigan’s more modest performance record covering the same
races shows no wins, five top-five and seven top-10 finishes.
But numbers don’t necessarily tell the whole story in the
Richards/Lanigan showdown, which has a $100,000 champion’s prize riding
on its result. Richards, the defending WoO LMS titlist, knows history
won’t be the determining factor in the razor-close points race.
“Anything can happen at Charlotte,” said Richards, who won the tour’s
last event at The Dirt Track on Oct. 13, for his series-leading eighth
triumph of 2010. www.charlottemotorspeedway.com

All five local divisions at Boyd's Speedway closed out the 2010 Points
Championship with a full slate of regular racing. Defending and now
two-time Steel-Head Late Model Champion Rick Hixson finished off the
season winning the 25 lap, $1,000 to-WIN "A" Main Feature race Friday
night taking on 15 other top drivers. Jake Knowles (driving Richard
Austin's # A19) seem to have things well in hand, til he made contact
with back-marker Jimmy Elliott down the back-stretch. The lead duo made
contact in turn-one, ending Knowles night, which gave Hixson the lead.
Hixson had no problems pulling away from 1999 S.A.S Champion Jamie
Perry for the trip to Victory Lane. Josh Collins was third with Billy
Ogle Jr. fourth. Visiting Alabamian T.J. Alford rounded out the Top-5.
In the Crate LM 20-lapper, Ronnie Johnson pressured leader Jeff Smith
lap after lap, but to no-avail as the Villanow, GA, racer took his
(self proclaimed) 24th win of the season. Behind RJ was newly crowned
2010 Crate LM champion Craig Burrows, Jerry Coffman, and last week's
winner Jason Welshan. In the A-Hobby feature Gene Dover made the
HAT-TRICK with his 3rd consecutive win. Blake Armitage was 2nd, Patrick
Wilson 3rd, Gary Johnson 4th, and Robbie Green 5th. In the B-Hobby it
was Dallas Brooks with his 2nd career feature win, while James Dykes
and Tommy Gilbert took the 15-lap FWD finale down to the wire. Gilbert
was victorious with Dykes 2nd. Finishing 3rd was newly-crowned points
champion Michael Arp, with Derrick Forgey and Matt Patton rounding out
the Top-5 finishers. http://www.boydsspeedway.com/

Ray Cook’s Tarheel 50 will invade the 1/3 mile oval of Boyd’s Speedway
in Ringgold, GA, for a $4,000 to win main event Friday, Nov. 5. Support
Classes will also be on the racing card.
Previous winners of the TARHEEL 50 include: Billy Moyer of Batesville,
AR in 2004 at Tri-County Race Track; Shane Clanton of Locust Grove, GA
in 2005 at Tri-County Race Track; Jonathan Davenport in 2006 at
Tri-County Race Track; Dennis Franklin of Gaffney, SC in 2007 at
Tri-County Race Track; Kayne Hickman of Soddy Daisy, TN in 2008 at
Tri-County Race Track, and Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, GA in 2009 at
Cleveland Speedway.

The 300-lap super late model World Crown at Greshams Nov. 14 will pay

Nov. 13 will pay $7,000 to win, and $600 to start. There are almost 30
cars already entered for each race. www.greshammotorsportspark.com

The Sunoco National Tour, recently known as ASA in the midwest, has a
150-lap late model show at North Wilkesboro Oct. 29-31 paying $3,500 to
win. LM qualifying 12:30 Sat. LM race 2:00 Sun. www.historicnws.com

Promotion idea: The Anderson Motor Speedway's Sunday Spooktacular is
a 150 lap Enduro event presented by Coe’s Roofing and WESC 92.5FM. The
event is 150 laps, 2 1/2 hour maximum or down to the last car running,
whichever comes first. The race progresses despite wrecked and out of
service vehicles littering the track, which becomes an obstacle course
for drivers. Spins, crashes and "rubbing" are common. As the race
progresses, the course becomes treacherous. When a car is wrecked or
disabled, a red flag is thrown to allow the driver to exit the track,
but the car is left on the speedway.
With limits on the suspension and engine modifications, there's a
finite amount of money you can spend on a car, which levels the playing
field for the drivers. The average starting field of an Enduro race
consists of about 50 cars, which are lined up on the speedway, 3 or 4
cars wide. www.andersonmotorspeedway.com
