So what do Atlanta Motor Speedway and the Andy Griffith Show have in
common? They both celebrate their 50th Anniversary this year!

Legends and sports car winner Sean Rayhall is now Engaged to Mckina
Michael. "Casey Roderick is my hero."

After leading the All American 400 (200 laps Super LMs, 200 laps Pro
LMs) at the Fairgrounds Speedway at Nashville for 199 laps, never by
more than 10 cars lengths, T.J. Reaid, of Acworth, won the biggest race
of his short career so far by just a fender length over another young
driver, 14 year old Chase Elliott, winning by just .082 seconds. Ross
Kenseth took third with veteran Jeff Fultz in fourth and Brian Campbell
in fifth.
Starting on the outside of the front row, Reaid took the lead on the
first lap and never looked back. After the halfway break Campbell
continued to challenge Reaid until he slipped and allowed Chase Elliot
and Ross Kenseth, 17-year-old son of NASCAR star Matt Kenseth, to get
past.
Elliott would challenge until a caution flag would fly and Reaid, who
was very good on restarts all night, would run out ahead. Elliott
would reel him in and patiently waited on him to make a mistake. Reaid
never did, but as the cars came to the white flag Elliott tried to go
under Reaid, and Reaid slammed that door shut. Then as the young
drivers came to the checkered flag Elliott dove under Reaid in the
fourth turn and nearly pulled off the win as they crossed the line.
"This is the biggest race I have ever won," an elated Reaid stated in
Victory Lane. "My crew chief, Chris Gabehart, won the last All
American race here and we get to keep the guitar in the same house.
They gave me a really good car, everybody worked hard, they deserved
this win."
Gabehart was the CRA Super Series Champion in 2007.
In recent years, the All American 400 has been a show dominated by the
CRA Series drivrs from the midwest. Before Reaid, Jason Hogan. of
Cleveland, GA, in 2005, was the last winner from the south.

Casey Roderick, a development driver for Bill Elliott Racing, made his
first ARCA start at Rockingham last October 11. After starting from the
rear of the field, the 17-year-old rookie charged to the front to lead
14 laps and finish second. He'll be back at Rockingham this weekend for
the ARCA-American 200, and seeking to regain the majic of that first
start.
Roderick and his race teams have had their share of bad luck in their
racing endeavors this season, from broken motors to mishaps on the race
track. Last weekend’s Kansas Lottery 150 was one of those challenges,
but it did not end well as the engine on Roderick’s Dodge blew before
he completed a lap in the race, leaving him with a disappointing
36th-place finish and his crew with nothing to show for two weeks of
hard work.
Two weeks prior to the 150, officials from Phoenix Racing informed
Elliott that they were not prepared to field another car for Roderick
after his on-track incident at Chicagoland totaled the car they had
hoped to run at Kansas as well.
So the “never give up, never surrender” attitude took hold in
Elliott’s Dawsonville shop, and Jim Barfield led shop members in
preparing Roderick’s Iowa car for the Kansas event. That was a tall
order since the added work had to be done in the middle of an already
hectic season of racing. But as usual they were up to the task, and
left for Kansas with a mini-team consisting of four crew members, plus
Roderick and Elliott.
Five laps into practice Roderick radioed that there was no oil
pressure, and Elliott made the call to come in and change the engine.
Crew members including Elliott went to work and completed the engine
change in time for qualifying. Elliott told Roderick to take it easy
and feel the car out as best as he could since he had no practice laps
with the engine. Roderick did as he was told and qualified a
respectable 16th.
Coming to the green flag, something in the new motor broke, and
Roderick would be relegated to the 36th finishing position.
“Despite the bad luck with the two motors I think we had a pretty
decent car from what I could tell in three or four laps,” Roderick
said. “Nobody gave up on this Bill Elliott racing team. It just wasn’t
meant to be I guess.
Next: The ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards visits
historic Rockingham Speedway on Saturday, October 9 for what promises
to be a thrilling championship finale. The 200-lap American 200
presented by Black's Tire and Auto Services airs live on SPEED at 1:30
p.m.

Chase Elliott's weekend started at Nashville, where he qualified his
Aaron's Lucky Dog
machine third for the 400, just nine thousandths of a second off the
pole
speed posted by Donnie Wilson.
Elliott then traveled to North Wilkesboro for a day of Pro Cup
practice
and qualifying. He qualified the Red Bull Ford in the eighth position
and
headed back to Nashvillen.
"I knew this would be a difficult weekend for the entire team as well
as
myself, but we all discussed it and we really wanted to be a part of
this
last race here," Elliott said. "So we were willing to do whatever it
took."
35 of the nation's most talented Super Late Model drivers were off to
the
races Saturday at Nashville. Elliott was in the top five when the first
caution of the evening was
displayed on Lap 35 and was in fourth before the 100-lap, halfway break.
Elliott and Ross Kenseth put on a show for the rest of the evening.
Restart
after restart, the two battled for the runner-up spot, allowing T.J.
Reaid to
pull away and pace the field. On Lap 185, Elliott finally pulled away
three
car lengths from Kenseth and set his sights on the leader. He was
making up
time to Reaid and went for the pass, pulling in front of Reaid on Lap
194
just as Colin Nickolai spun and in the process put down oil all over the
track.
Elliott had just pulled in front of Reaid and nearly lost it driving
into
the fluid; Reaid did spin in the fluid, but luck was on his side, and
the
caution had just been displayed so CRA officials deemed him the leader
and
put him back in front of Elliott for the restart.
Elliott would come up a nose shy of the win as Reaid took the checkered
flag.
From there it was back to North Wilkesboro and time to focus his
attention
back on his Red Bull Ford. Elliott and his driver development team have
made strides learning each week what it takes to run in the highly
competitive Pro Cup series.
Sunday's race would be no different. It was 250 laps of learning.
By talking about the car's handling over the radio and making
adjustments
based on that communication, Elliott went on to post his sixth top-10
finish
in seven starts in the series.
"I am really looking forward to running at Greenville-Pickens this
weekend [Oct. 9] in this Pro Cup car," he said. "I really
would like to get a win for Red Bull before the season ends and we have
two
more races to do it."

A big crowd showed up at Tri-County Race Track Sunday to see some of
the South’s top Sportsman drivers battle each other in the Aarons Sales
and Leasing Southeastern Late Model Sportsman Series 35 lap $1200 to
win main event.
In the early laps, a three car duel was going on between Rodney
Peters, Bobby Painter and Charle Parker as Parker Herring was creeping
up to join the battle. Peters spun which put him to the back of the
field. Parker hit Panter in turn two which put Parker to the tail and
Herring passed Panter to take the lead as Panter tried several high
groove attempts to regain the lead only to fall short. Wesley English

My response to a "best dirt tracks" question:
1 - Charlotte - suites, elevators, huge staff, lacks video screen,
scoreboard minimal
2 - Lucas in Wheatland - like the suites with outdoor seating too.
elevator, not well staffed. best video screen, acres of flat land
3 - Las Vegas - suites, elevator, dirt surface not too hot, can
push-start racers without push cars entering the track
4 - Texas - suites, elevator, good dirt surface, well organized
5 - Lawrenceburg - could have done better considering the money spent,
casino across the street
6 - Eldora - good surface and good events
7 - Eldora South (in my dreams at Atlanta Motor Speedway)
