Bill Smith Ford Mustang to pace American 200
Iconic Pony Car to lead both UARA and ARCA Series to green
Rockingham, NC (Oct. 4, 2010) –1965 was a big year in American automotive history. The Ford Mustang roared onto the American automotive scene and the Rockingham Speedway hosted its first race.
So it’s more than fitting that the two iconic names are coming together after 45 years on Oct. 9 as a Mustang will serve as the pace car for the running of the American 200 presented by Black’s Tire and Auto Service at the Rockingham Speedway.
Southern Pines (NC)-based Bill Smith Ford is providing the two 2011 Ford Mustangs that will lead the UARA-Stars and ARCA fields to the green flag.
“The American 200 is the second time we have had Bill Smith Ford as our pace car provider,” said Rockingham Speedway President Andy Hillenburg, “but it’s the first time we have had a Mustang as the pace car. We are very thankful for all the folks at Bill Smith and I can’t wait to see those Mustangs leading the fields to green in the American 200.”
Festivities for the American 200 race weekend kick off on Thursday, Oct. 7 with the ninth annual Thunderfest in downtown Rockingham. The street festival at Harrington Square gets underway at 11 a.m. and will feature music from the The Tams and Nantucket, a Kids Zone, an ARCA and UARA driver autograph session at 6:30 p.m., a beer garden and many other attractions.
Racing action also gets underway on Oct. 7 with an open practice for the cars of the ARCA Series. General admission to the grandstands is free. Friday, Oct. 8 is pole day for ARCA and UARA with fans admitted to the grandstands for $5. The American 200 presented by Black’s Tire and Auto Service gets underway Saturday, Oct. 9 with the UARA Late Models rolling off at 11 a.m. followed by the ARCA 200-miler at 1:30 pm . Tickets, starting at $20 in advance, and suite packages are still available.
