Hyundai Opens Manufacturing Facility In Russia
SYDNEY – Sept 22, 2010: Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea’s largest automaker, has officially opened the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus (HMMR) plant, located in St Petersburg, Russia.
With mass production scheduled to begin in January next year, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus (HMMR), a fully-owned subsidiary of Seoul-based Hyundai Motor, will have its annual production targeted at 105,000 vehicles in the first year, which will be increased to 150,000 units per year in 2012.
With the completion of HMMR, Hyundai Motor Company now has six production facilities outside South Korea, including USA, China, India, Turkey and the Czech Republic.
The Russian Federation’s Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Mong-Koo attended the grand opening ceremony joining six hundred VIPs, company executives, dignitaries and media members from both Russia and South Korea.
“Hyundai Motor Company plans to create 5,300 jobs by 2012 in St. Petersburg together with eleven parts suppliers from Korea and, furthermore, contribute to the advancement of Russia’s automotive industry by developing and supporting local automotive parts manufacturers,” Chairman Chung said at the ceremony.
A large contingent of Russian employees have attended intensive training at Hyundai’s plants in South Korea and the Czech Republic acquiring new, and refining existing skills. HMMR is Russia’s first ‘full-cycle’ car production facility belonging to a foreign automaker, with facilities to complete all manufacturing processes from steel stamping to final assembly.
