NHRA O’Reilly Auto Parts Super Start Batteries Fall Nationals

Jeg Coughlin Jr. enters this weekend’s NHRA O’Reilly Auto Parts Super
Start Batteries Fall Nationals as the fourth-seeded driver in the Pro Stock
class. Coughlin trails leader Mike Edwards by 80 points with four events
remaining in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship playoffs.
Jeg made his Pro Stock debut at the Texas Motorplex in 1997. He qualified
No. 7 and defeated the late Scott Geoffrion in round one before losing to
Jim Yates in round two.
In 15 appearances at the Texas Motorplex, Jeg has a round win record of
20-11 in Pro Stock competition.
Jeg won the Pro Stock title in Dallas in 2002 defeating Gene Wilson in the
final round. He also earned runner-up finishes in 2000, 2003, and 2008.
Jeg has been the No. 1 qualifier 17 times in his career including three at
the Texas Motorplex. He led the Pro Stock field in 2000, 2004, and 2008. In
2004, he also set low elapsed time and top speed of the event with a run
of 6.774-seconds at 204.35 mph.
After the first 19 races of the 2010 season, Jeg has claimed four wins and
appeared in six final rounds in NHRA national event competition. He earned
victories in Houston, Atlanta, Sonoma, and Brainerd and also reached the
final round in St. Louis and Denver.
At the most recent NHRA event at zMax Dragway in Concord, N.C., Coughlin
qualified his JEGS.com Chevy Cobalt in the No. 15 spot but eliminated points
leader and reigning NHRA Full Throttle champion Mike Edwards in round one
before falling to Greg Stanfield in round two. Despite the loss, Coughlin
was able to gain 7 points on Edwards in the standings.
Jeg Coughlin is a four-time NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Pro Stock
champion. He earned season titles in 2000, 2002, 2007 and 2008. As a
sportsman driver, Jeg also claimed the NHRA Super Gas championship in 1992.
With 52 career Pro Stock wins, Jeg ranks fourth all-time among Pro Stock
drivers. Only Warren Johnson (97), Bob Glidden (85) and Greg Anderson (62)
have more titles.
Racing in the Top Dragster class, Jeg also won the NHRA O’Reilly Midwest
Nationals earlier this season behind the wheel of his brother, John’s 200-mph
JEGS.com dragster.
In 279 career Pro Stock races, Jeg has reached the final round 83 times,
recording 52 wins. Including his 14 sportsman victories, Jeg has won a total
of 66 times, good for ninth place on NHRA’s all time wins list. During his
career, Jeg has appeared in102 final rounds, 83 as a professional and 19 as
a sportsman racer.
During his Pro Stock career, Jeg has recorded 469 round wins while
incurring just 214 losses. He has failed to advance past the opening round just 66
times.
