DALLAS & FORT WORTH, Texas--Half Price Books, the nation’s largest new and used bookstore chain, announced today it has installed a Coulomb Technologies ChargePoint® Networked Charging Station for electric vehicles at its Dallas Flagship store and corporate headquarters, located at 5803 E. Northwest Highway.

“Since we were founded in 1972, Half Price Books has taken great pride in being a green company that recycles resources”

Half Price Books will hold a press conference to unveil the charging station on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. CDT. Representatives from Half Price Books, Coulomb Technologies’ southwest distributor Verdek Guy Mannino, and North Texas Clean Air Coalition will be on hand for interviews. The Level II charging station is located in the southeast corner of the location’s parking lot under the large Half Price Books sign.

“Since we were founded in 1972, Half Price Books has taken great pride in being a green company that recycles resources,?? said Kathy Doyle Thomas, executive vice president of Half Price Books. “We are pleased we can have this offering for electric vehicle owners in the Dallas area and are proud to lead the charge to make North Texas one of the top green regions in the country.??

Half Price Books’ charging station – the first at a North Texas retailer – is part of the ChargePoint Network, a global electric vehicle charging infrastructure accessible to users on the web and mobile devices. The charging station will be free to electric vehicle owners through September 2011.

Coulomb’s ChargePoint® Network is open to all drivers of plug-in vehicles and all manufacturers of plug-in vehicle charging stations. ChargePoint Network’s unique features include:

  • The ability for the station owner to set fees for use of their stations (including free charging)
  • The ability for drivers to access stations without a subscription via contact-less credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, and Discover)
  • 24/7/365 telephone driver support via a toll free number on all charging stations
  • Smart Grid ready with built in Utility Grade Metering, Time of Use (TOU) pricing and Demand Response (DR) control
  • Multiple Smart Phone applications (iPhone, Blackberry, and coming soon Android) to find unoccupied stations and navigate to them
  • The lowest operating cost possible due to real time operational monitoring, alerts, diagnosis, and control of millions of stations

“Half Price Books is one of the leading green companies in the Metroplex,?? said Jennifer Cohen, project director for the North Texas Clean Air Coalition. “We’re thrilled they have chosen to install an electric vehicle charging station at their Flagship store and hope this will encourage other businesses to do the same.??
