Jason Line Qualifies No. 1 in Charlotte, Targets First zMAX win
Event: 3rd annual O’Reilly Nationals
Location: zMAX Dragway, Concord, NC
Day/Date: Saturday, September 18, 2010
On the strength of a 6.604-second, 209.56 mph pass made in the third qualifying session on Saturday morning, Summit Racing Pro Stock Pontiac driver Jason Line captured the No. 1 qualifying position for the O’Reilly Nationals in Concord, NC.
Over the course of the two days of time trials, Line and his teammate Greg Anderson swapped quickest times in each session, with Line best in the first and third session to not only capture the top starting spot, but also earn nine bonus championship points. This marks Line’s first No. 1 qualifying performance of the season, 17th of his Pro Stock career, and first at zMAX Dragway. Armed with an extremely quick and consistent race car, the 2006 champion is naturally looking forward to race day.
“I’m extremely proud of our Summit Racing team’s performance,?? said Line. “We made two really good runs, and even the two that were not as good were still among the best in the class. It has been a tremendous weekend so far, but our work is far from finished.
“This has been a long and hard year for this KB Racing crew. We know we’re better than what we’ve shown so far. Fortunately, thanks to a tremendous effort by everyone involved, we’re finally starting to run the way we should. It feels really good to be back near the top. It’s great to be the No. 1 qualifier anywhere, but to do it here at our home track in front of our families and friends, is pretty special.
“Hopefully we can turn this increased performance into race wins, starting tomorrow. Fortunately, we’re going in with the confidence that we have the power to run as fast or faster than anyone out there, which is important because it allows me to focus on my driving. We need to start winning in order to contend for the championship, and I see no reason why one of our Summit Racing Pontiacs can’t end the day in the winner’s circle.??
