Strong Team Effort Places Line Third on Friday in Charlotte
Event: 3rd annual O’Reilly Nationals
Location: zMAX Dragway, Concord, NC
Day/Date: Friday, September 17, 2010
The first day of qualifying for the O’Reilly Nationals in Concord, NC featured clear skies, temperatures in the 90s and high humidity, conditions which sent Pro Stock crew chiefs scrambling to find the right tune-up. Fortunately, Jason Line’s Summit Racing Pontiac was under the care of veteran tuners Rob Downing and Tommy Utt, who came up with all the right answers, as Line and his teammate Greg Anderson combined to post the quickest time in each session. Line took the honors in the opening stanza with a 6.633-second, 209.14 mph effort, which was good enough for third at the end of the day, giving his confidence a boost heading into Saturday’s final two sessions.
“Today was the best start our KB Racing team has had all year,?? said Line. “We have two really good Summit Racing Pontiacs, which has me stoked because I believe we can win this race. I’m not going to look too far ahead, because we still have two more rounds of qualifying, and we have a ways to go. But the good news is that we have something left in all three cars, including Ronnie Humphrey in the Genuine Hotrod Hardware car, so we’re going to be pretty pumped leaving here tonight.??
