SCOTT CAPS CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON
WITH ANOTHER LATE MODEL WIN
Â
PINE
GROVE, CALIFORNIA (September 14, 2010) – 18 year-old Matt Scott spent no time resting on his
laurels as the newly crowned champion of the Late Model division at All
American Speedway, by winning the first of the twin 44 lap features on Saturday
night.
Â
Scott
clinched the division title on September 4th with a main event win
in the 75 lap feature.
Â
On Saturday
night, the youngest All American Speedway Late Model champion ever set a new
track record qualifying time of 13.650 seconds.Â
The time was nearly one-tenth quicker than the second place car and sent
a strong statement to the 16 car field on hand.
Â
After
pulling an invert of eight, Scott rolled off eighth on the grid for the first
44 lap feature. Scott moved into the
top-five within the first eight laps, and passed Gary Glenn for second on lap
28.
Â
With
Scott’s car coming in to him during the long green flag run, he began to reel
in the leader Juan Pitta.
Â
The first
caution of the race flew on lap 37 which put Scott alongside Pitta for the
double-file restart. Scott had a great
restart on the outside and took off to lead the final seven laps for the win.
Â
The
victory is Scott’s eighth of the 2010 season and 12th in his career.
Â
A four
car invert placed Scott fourth on the grid for the second feature. By lap four, Scott was up into second and
challenging race leader Zane Lovelace, Jr.Â
On lap nine, Scott and Lovelace raced side-by-side with Scott taking the
lead on lap 10.
Â
The
yellow flag came out on lap 16, which set the stage for a thrilling
back-and-forth battle between Scott and Lovelace. Lovelace took over the lead but not after
several side-by-side battles.
Â
On lap
31, Scott came back at Lovelace for another side-by-side duel. The duel ended on lap 37 when they made
contact and Scott spun.
Â
“I
squeezed him just a little bit and it was just a racing incident,?? Scott
said. “You come out here knowing stuff
can happen.??
Â
In a wild
final seven laps, Scott managed to pick off cars one-by-one to make his way
from the back of the field to finish fifth.
Â
“(Coming
back to fifth) really shows you how good that car was,?? Scott said. “I can’t thank my crew enough.??
