K-PAX Racing Finishes

K-PAX Racing Volvos Finish First and Third in First Race at VIR



Alton, VA (September 11, 2010) – Randy Pobst took advantage of his  
pole position start, built a large lead in the number 6 K-PAX Racing  
Volvo S60 and took the victory in the first of two races at the Race  
Keeper World Challenge VIR Grand Prix presented by MTM Special Ops  
Watch at Virginia International Raceway. James Sofronas finished  
second in a Porsche 911 GT3 and Randy’s team mate Andy Pilgrim put the  
number 8 Volvo S60 on the podium with a third place result.



Randy started from the pole position in the number 6 K-PAX Racing  
Volvo S60, and led all 22 laps. At one point late in the race, his  
lead grew to 14 seconds over second place. The final margin of was  
6.882 seconds over Sofronas.



“The K-PAX Volvo came off the line like a rocket, the start work  
beautifully. I think I had smoke pouring off all four tires!” an  
excited and happy Randy said.



Traffic was a big factor in the race, one that worked to Randy’s  
advantage. “It’s really a great break if you can catch [slower cars]  
before the corners. I got that break several times. I happened to  
catch the slow car before the corners and then Kuno (Wittmer) would be  
stuck behind him. We gained room on the Viper and got a little bit of  
a lead,” he explained.



Randy also credited the K-PAX Volvo’s all-wheel drive, which helped  
him maintain the lead once it began to rain intermittently during the  
race.



Randy’s teammate Andy Pilgrim began the race from the number four  
position on the grid, and moved up to third on the first lap and was  
running second by lap 15. Sofronas passed Andy on the inside of turn  
two on lap 18, and the two finished in the same order.



“I got a good start. There was a lot of action on the start, Sofronas  
didn’t get a good start, Kuno got a better one. Kuno went off (at the  
end of the straightaway) and I ended up in second,” Andy said.



“I got absolutely hammered in traffic. All the distance between me and  
James disappeared and he was rubbing on me going into the last turn. I  
opted to go to the outside in turn one because it was still kind of  
damp, and it was just a bad choice,” he explained.



In addition to the win, Randy also collected the MTM Special Ops Watch  
Move of the Race for splitting two cars (number 43 and 40) going into  
turn one midway through the event.



Randy’s lead in driver’s championship is 181 over Kuno Wittmer who is  
in second place and 10 points ahead of Sofronas.   Andy is in fourth,  
275 points back.



Volvo’s lead in the manufacturer’s championship standings is 6 points  
over Porsche.


K-PAX Racing will be back in action for the second round at the Race  
Keeper World Challenge VIR Grand Prix presented by MTM Special Ops  
Watch on Sunday, September 12. Qualifying is set for 9:50 a.m. to  
10:25 a.m., and the race will be from 1:35 p.m. to 2:35 p.m.



The Race Keeper World Challenge VIR Grand Prix presented by MTM  
Special Ops Watch will be broadcast on Versus on Sunday, September 26  
from 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. ET.
