Coughlin ready to successfully defend U.S. Nationals title (NHRA/JEGS)

Coughlin ready to successfully defend U.S. Nationals title

INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 5) – After being as high as No. 1 in the Pro Stock
field, Jeg Coughlin Jr. will start No. 4 during Monday's eliminations at the
56th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil.

"I'm looking forward to making four good runs," said Coughlin, who started
the day in the top spot. "We weren't real excited about how we ran today.
We've got data on all five good runs, and I'm confident about what we'll be
able to do on Monday. "

Coughlin wasn't able to improve on the 6.580 second lap at 209.39 mph in
the JEGS.com Chevy Cobalt, but he was able to get good data to be ready for
Monday's eliminations. He's got a matchup against Rodger Brogdon who
qualified 13th with a best pass of 6.621 at 208.10 mph.

"I think it's going to be extra challenging for the crew chiefs to read the
track," Coughlin said. "We'll be following the fuelers for the first time
all weekend. This track has a tendency to rip up from the water box all the
way to the 60 foot mark.

Temperatures are supposed to spike on Monday afternoon and the track will
be hotter than it's been all weekend.

"It's going to be a little bit hotter, a little bit trickier," Coughlin
said. "It's going to be fun to mix it up a little. Hopefully we'll be on top
of that game."

Coughlin will be trying to win the U.S. Nationals for the fourth time in
his career and defend his win from 2009.

"If you hit rewind on a year ago, and see how we performed on our five runs
and even on Monday, it was amazing we were able to pull off the U.S.
Nationals win," Coughlin said. "We're way ahead of the curve from last year."

Eliminations for the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals begin at 11 a.m. EDT on
Monday. ESPN2 will pick up its coverage of the event starting at 1 p.m. EDT.
