Point Leaders Baer and Zechman Claim Victories at SSP on Saturday Night

Newberrytown, PA (September 4, 2010) - Dover's Larry Baer added his name to the list of York County Nationals winners by claiming the 32-lap Late Model feature event at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday night. Littlestown's Randy Zechman wired the field from start-to-finish to win his fifth Street Stock feature event of the season. Lewisberry's Adam Smith won his first Xtreme Stock Car race when a last lap accident claimed the top three running cars. Brent Marquis of Churchville, MD led all 20 laps of the special 3rd Annual Four Diamonds Legends Cars Benefit race. Pine Grove's Christopher Holland won both the make-up and regularly scheduled Road Warrior feature events.

Larry Baer led the first lap, the last lap and every lap in between to claim the 32-lap 10th Annual York County Nationals. The York County Nationals is a race that was created under the direction of the previous owners of the Susquehanna Speedway Park. The traditional race was continued when the Fisher's purchased the speedway in 2004. The unique amount of laps is derived from the I-83 exit number in which the speedway is located (exit 32). 2008 race winner, Carl Billet, stalked Baer the entire race, waiting for a mistake by the leader to claim the lead. That mistake almost came on lap 30 when Baer slid high in turn 2, giving Billet a chance to pull beside Baer down the backstretch. However, Baer quickly recovered to hold onto the lead in the next turn. Billet settled for second, followed by Chris Knopp, Justin Ehrhart and Sterling Kinard. Denny Willey and John Moser Jr. were the heat race victors.

Randy Zechman did the same thing as Baer in the Late Model feature by leading the first lap, the last and each lap in between to win the 25-lap Street Stock feature. Like a mirror image to the Late Model race, Jim Palm Jr. stalked Zechman the entire race, waiting for a mistake occur. In this race, Zechman, the SSP Street Stock point leader, never made a mistake. Palm had to settle for second place, followed by Scott Thunberg, George Eash and Sam Rial. Zechman and Rial won the qualifying heat races.

Racing action returns next weekend to the SSP Big Track on Saturday night September 11 at 6:00 p.m. (note new starting time) with a Patriot Day Special featuring an appearance from the PA Sprint Series along with the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars and Mini Vans.

The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south. For more information, contact the speedway offices at (717) 292-1696 or visit online at sspracing.net. The times are from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Any racing related items may be sold new or used from go karts/quarter midgets to full-size racecars and everything in between. Cars, engines, parts and trailers may be available.

For those who will be attending to sell, we can advertise your items if you send an email to sspracing@hotmail.com listing the items. The listing will be included in a email release on Monday. The deadline is 12:00 p.m. on Monday to be included. Your listing can also be included in the Classified Section at www.sspracing.net.
