Eighth on Saturday, Anderson Aims for Consistent Performance in Indy

Event: 56th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals
Location: O’Reilly Raceway Park, Indianapolis, IN
Day/Date: Saturday, September 4, 2010

After a mechanical issue forced him to shut off early on his first attempt on Friday, Summit Racing Pontiac racer Greg Anderson looked for a strong rebound during the second day of qualifying for the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, IN. He seemed to get back on track in the early session, posting the fifth-quickest time at 6.602-seconds with a top speed of 209.20 mph.

However, when excessive tire spin prevented him from taking advantage of the cooler temperatures during his evening run, the five-time U.S. Nationals winner acknowledged that despite his eighth place standing, both he and his team had their work cut out for them. Fortunately, due to the unique qualifying procedure employed at the “Big Go??, the KB Racing crew has the luxury of two additional qualifying runs on Sunday, which they looked to put to good use.

“I’ve only been down the racetrack once in three tries, so my batting average isn’t very good right now,?? said Anderson. “Fortunately, since this is Indy, I have two more attempts tomorrow to help my percentage and get our Summit Racing Pontiac ready for race day. As the one run showed, we have a decent car and decent power, but have yet to hit the bulls-eye.

“The starting line has proven to be a real challenge, particularly in the right lane. If that wasn’t enough, it somehow seems to be getting worse, which has thrown a lot of teams for a loop. At this point, we’re just one of several cars that keep blowing the tires off. It’s frustrating, but we have to learn how to deal with it so we can consistently get down the track. We have two runs tomorrow, and we need to make the most of them.??
