POST-RACE QUOTES

JAMIE McMURRAY (No. 88 Hellmans/BJ's Chevrolet, Great Clips 300 winner):
"We unloaded today and pretty much had the fastest car on the track. We
just had a really good day. Pops (crew chief Tony Eury, Sr.) did a good
job adjusting the car. I felt like at the beginning of the race I had
the best car and it felt like we had a second- or third-place car in the
middle. At the end, it just had tons of speed and certainly getting out
in front on that last restart was critical. I really thought when we
came to the green there, whoever got in front it was going to be hard to
pass that guy. Fortunately we got a jump there and got ahead of Kyle
[Busch]. It's the same thing every week - for the car out front, the
clean air is huge." Q: What did you learn for the Cup race tomorrow: "My
comfort level (for Sunday) is pretty low. We didn't have a very good day
today. What we've been doing at the mile-and-a-half track just didn't
work for us. We struggled here today; we qualified OK, just not where we
needed to be. But the track changed - and man, the cars are so much
different, but the track's going to change the same."

 

TONY EURY, SR. (No. 88 crew chief): "We wanted to save all we could
until the end. We knew there would be a couple of cautions at the end -
we wanted to make sure we had tires at the end - so we stayed out that
one stop when [Kevin] Harvick stopped. We knew how big tires were going
to be at the end. We got in front in that clean air and set sails."

 

KYLE BUSCH (No. 18 NOS Energy Drink Toyota, second place): "Didn't quite
unfold the way we wanted it to. We came up short tonight. Five laps more
and I could have had him. If ... there's always an 'if' in this sport I
guess."

 

CARL EDWARDS (No. 60 Fastenal Ford, third place): "This is a fun race
track. It was like a dirt race, where you have to find your line. I
could catch those guys and then I would mess up one lap and I would have
to pedal for five or six laps to get back to where I was before I messed
up. It was a really tough race and I'm pretty excited about tomorrow -
500 miles, more horsepower. It should be a pretty good race. My guys did
a really good job tonight, and that's the best we've run on a
mile-and-a-half." Q: What did you learn about the track: "I learned a
lot tonight from the race track. Our Aflac Fusion is really good for
tomorrow. It's going to be fun. I thought the track would have a lot
more grip. I didn't think it would be as slick as it was. It was
different than I thought. Think that'll make it a really good race for
tomorrow. The slicker the better."

 

RICKY STENHOUSE JR. (No. 6 Blackwell Angus Beef Ford, 10th place, top
rookie): "Real solid performance. This was the first time I drove
Atlanta. I really like the race track; reminded me of July in Daytona,
sliding around a lot. In practice we weren't sure if we were gong to be
good or not. We started off pacing ourselves trying to keep the fenders
on it. We kept adjusting and kept working on it, and we had a really
fast race car at the end of the race."
