Line Opens U.S. Nationals Qualifying in Third

Event: 56th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals
Location: O’Reilly Raceway Park, Indianapolis, IN
Day/Date: Friday, September 3, 2010

Qualifying for the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals got underway on Friday with a single session at O’Reilly Raceway Park, and, as befits the biggest stop the NHRA circuit, more Pro Stock Cars turned out than at any other event this year, with 30 racers making an attempt. Jason Line and his Summit Racing team got off to a great start, covering the quarter mile in 6.611-seconds at a top speed of 207.94 mph, good enough for third at day’s end.

However, with four attempts remaining over the next two days, he acknowledged there was still work to be done. In addition, any excitement about his solid opening performance was tempered by the fact that his teammate Greg Anderson had an issue during his run which forced him to shut off early. Even so, Line was confident both KB Racing entries would be in good standing following Saturday’s twin attempts.

“Our Summit Racing Pontiac made a pretty decent run, and I think there’s probably something left it,?? said Line. “Overall I really can’t complain, and now that we have established a decent baseline, we’ll keep chiseling at it, seeing if we can make it even better. With four more runs in qualifying, we certainly want to get it fully dialed in for Monday.

“Unfortunately, Greg having a problem on his run puts a damper on our day as well, because we want to do well as a team. On a positive note, we have already found and fixed the problem, so we should both be in good shape for tomorrow.??
