After three American Le Mans Series events and an outing aboard the Marino Andretti 1978 World Championship Lotus 78 at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, Dayton will again get back behind the wheel this week at the Lime Rock Historic Festival. The Lotus 79 will be returning to Lime Rock - this time Dayton taking back the wheel from his ALMS star driver David Brabham. The 2009 ALMS LMP1 champion and 2010 points leader recently sampled the Lotus for a feature story for Autosport Magazine's 60th anniversary issue. Dayton will be a busy man at Lime Rock this weekend, also driving his Chevron B23 sportscar and the 1967 McLaren M4A Formula 2 car. The former Lime Rock Cup winner will be on track on Friday, Saturday and Monday of the Labor Day weekend. Fans attending the event can also enjoy the increasingly popular Sunday in the Park Concours & Car Show on Sunday the 5th. BRABS READY FOR "DOWN UNDER" ASSAULT With a four-week gap between Mosport and the season-ending Petit Le Mans, Dayton isn't the only member of the Patrón Highcroft Racing team taking part in some extra curricular activities. Fresh from his 100th ALMS race start at Mosport, Brabham headed straight to Australia to begin testing and preparations for his three race stint with Stone Brothers Racing aboard a Ford Falcon V8 Supercar with Alex Davison. A former factory Porsche driver with five ALMS starts under his belt Davison will have Brabham join him at three two-driver events "down under" including next week's L&H 500 at Phillip Island. Following Phillip Island, Brabham will return to the ALMS for the final round at Petit Le Mans for Patrón Highcroft Racingwhere he will be joined by Simon Pagenaud and Marino Franchitti. The team need only to finish 70 percent of the Atlanta event to clinch the championship. Even if Brabham can pull that off, there won't be much time to celebrate - he will be immediately back on a plane to Australia to contest the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 the following week. For V8 Supercar racing, Bathurst is the holy grail of the sport - one of the world's most challenging race circuits. Four miles in length, the 20-turn circuit has massive elevation changes. From the very top of Mount Panorama to the podium at the entrance of pit lane is a drop of 570 feet - more than 50 stories. The Highcroft star should be well accustomed to the heavier, high horsepower, low downforce V8 Supercars after the 1000km classic - just in time to take on his international rivals at the Armor All Gold Coast 600 on the streets of Surfers Paradise on October 22-24. With teams having to add a mandatory international co-driver, Brabham will join the likes of Dario Franchitti, Helio Castroneves, Will Power, Ryan Briscoe, Scott Dixon, Alex Tagliani and fellow ALMS driver Patrick Long in this street race event.
