Christine Wins Second Late Model Race of the Season and Bennett Returns to Street Stock Victory Lane at SSP on Saturday Night

 

Newberrytown, PA (August 28, 2010) - Manchester's Randy Chrisitne Jr. picked up his second Late Model victory of the season by leading 19 laps of the 20-lap feature at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday night.  Doug Bennett of Chambersburg returned to his winning ways by claiming his fourth Street Stock victory of the year.  Spring Grove's Mike Zeigler Jr. won his third Xtreme Stock race in four events when Jason Failor was disqualified in post-race technical inspection for the fourth time this season.  Kurt Welsh led from start to finish in the Classic Car feature event.  The 12-lap Mini Van feature was won once again by York Haven's Daryl Sipe for the seventh time this year.    

 

Derrick Zirkle led the first lap of the 20-lap Late Model feature event from the pole position.  On the second lap Randy Christine Jr. powered into the top spot and extended his lead by a full straightaway until the yellow flag flew on lap 9.  This put runner-up Sterling Kinard on the rear bumper on the restart.  When the race continued, Christine once again remained in command of the top spot.  Towards the final six laps of the race, current SSP point leader Larry Bear began to track down and close up Christine's lead.  A caution on both laps 18 and 19 put Baer on the Christine's rear bumper, but h was unable to make the pass for the win.  Christine claimed win number two of the season.  Larry Baer finished second and extended his lead for the points race with three events remaining.  Justin Ehrhart finished a strong third with Bob Minnich and Kinard rounding out the top five.  Bob Minnich, Charles Potts and Kinard were heat race victors.

 

Doug Bennett of Chambersburg grabbed the lead on the start of the race and never looked back to lead all 20 laps of the Street Stock main event.  Sam Rial and Randy Zechman battled throughout te first half of the race with Zechman coming home in second behind Bennett.  Bob Scott Jr. ran strong to finish third with Rial falling back to the fourth place finishing position.  Jeremy Becker's smooth run found him claiming the fifth spot.  Jim Palm Jr., George Eash and Jimmy Slaseman won their respective heat races.

 

Racing action returns to the SSP Outback Track on Friday night, September 3 at 7:30 p.m. featuring quarter midgets, karts, lawnmowers and Adult Speedcar racing action.  This race is the final race of the 2010 Summer Shoot-Out Series.  Racing begins at 7:30 p.m.

 

Racing action returns next weekend to the SSP Big Track on Saturday night September 5 at 6:00 p.m. (note new starting time) with the 10th Annual York County Nationals featuring a 32-lap Late Model championship.  The Street Stocks will compete in 25-lap feature event as well.  The Xtrmee Stock Cars and Legends Cars will also join the program.   The Road Warriors will compete in two feature  (one regularly scheduled and one make-up feature from August 21).

- Repeat Fan Discount Continues for 2010 - The popular "Repeat Fan Discount" program will continue at SSP in 2010.  There is a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week's events completed only.  Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during and at the end of the season for great prizes.  The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.

 

 

Swap Meet Added to the Next Wednesday Night Test & Tune on September 1

 

 

The next Wednesday Night Test & Tune session will be held on Wednesday, September 1 at the Susquehanna Speedway Park.  It is open to any type of racecars capable of competing on the 4/10 mile oval.  The cost is $12.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($32.00 per car & driver combination).  Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with open track time from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. by class.  Each session will be 6 - 8 laps per session.  The grandstands are open free to the public.  Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 6/8 laps each or more if time permits.  The fuel pumps from Miller's Racing Parts will not be open.  Anyone needing fuel should contact Miller's Racing Parts directly at 717-766-0181.  The main concession stand will be open throughout the night. 

 

Also on Wednesday night, there will an open practice session for quarter midgets and karts at the Outback Track from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. under the lights.  The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with open practice from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  The cost will be $20.00 per driver with no charge for anyone else entering the grandstand and "cold pit" areas.  All Outback Track participants should enter the pits from the Kise Mill Road entrance behind turn 2 of the "Big Track." 

 

There will also be a bi-weekly racing swap meet added to all Wednesday Night Test & Tunes scheduled for 2010 at SSP.  The event is free to buy, sell or look.  All sellers will set up in the parking lot across the street from the speedway.  The times are from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Any racing related items may be sold new or used from go karts/quarter midgets to full-size racecars and everything in between.   This will give teas a chance to raise money by getting rid of equipment not needed and give other teams a chance to search for those items needed to stay on the track in 2010.  Cars, engines, parts and trailers may be available.
