Demeny Racing - TORC Bark River II Race Report

Demeny Charges to a Podium Finish -
Bark River II Round 9
Abrams, WI (August 18, 2010) - Don Demeny was
looking to put its driveline gremlins behind them as the team traveled to Bark
River for the second time this season. The starting grid for the weekend was
the largest of the season for the Super Stock Trucks as sixteen steel bodied warriors'
waged battle. The
yellow #885 Nsight Teleservices Cellcom BFGoodrich Tires Dodge Ram 1500
certainly was battled tested and proven during Saturday's run, but came up
short during the finale on Sunday.
After a roller coaster ride of a weekend in Oshkosh, Don and
his team were looking for strong results at Bark River. The fast sweeping
curves of the 1.7 mile course includes the infamous Monster Energy Hill, a 150
foot tall ridge that runs through the middle of the track, as well as a nasty
whoop section that parallels the county road, all of which suits the driving
style of the MOPAR pilot.
The start of Saturday's Round 9, was interesting to say the
least. The three trucks wide first turn seemed to engulf the entire sixteen
truck field. The Nsight Dodge was hit from all sides and at one point was
completely stopped as the wad of trucks couldn't seem to get out of their own
way. Eventually, the dust and steel metal cleared and Don drove like a man
possessed. It seemed like every lap; the #885 Dodge Ram would move one spot
closer to the leader. With two laps to go, Don moved into third place, and held
the final podium spot the rest of the way.
Overnight and early then next morning Demeny Racing
performed the usual prep work for Sunday, but performed quite a bit of body
work. The front end of the truck received most of the attention as the fender,
grill, and hood help protect the engine from unwanted debris getting into the
belts and pulleys of the engine.
Not surprisingly Sunday's race began much like the day
before. A large pile of trucks pushing it was through the first turn, but this
time Don didn't get stuck in the middle. He guided the BFGoodrich Dodge around
the initial clog of trucks and was able to get into the top-5 as he approached
the grandstand tabletop. Within three
laps the engine temperatures began to rise and it would only a matter of time
before the added heat would cause a parts failure. With nothing else to lose,
Don pressed on hoping the failure would come after the checkered flag.
Unfortunately it didn't, and the truck lost forward motion with only a few laps
to go. Officially Demeny Racing finished eighth.
"This weekend we sure wrecked a lot of body panels,"
remarked Don Demeny. "I know this is a very evenly matched class, but I think I
need a sheet metal and fiberglass sponsor to make it through the season. Seriously
we had a great run Saturday, the mess in the first turn made me really focus
and driving and not think about what the others around me were doing. Today the
start was better, but the driveline issues came back. We will keep looking and
comparing things until we figure it out. Regardless we will be ready for
Crandon."
After ten of twelve rounds of racing in the TORC Super Stock
Truck Championship, Don Demeny is in fourth place.

On a special note, all the Super
Stock drivers got together to bring awareness to Prader-Willi Syndrome [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=yywyr9dab.0.akwzr9dab.fztirfdab.547&ts=S0506&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pwsusa.org].
Luke Beauchamp, son
of Super Stock driver Scott Beauchamp, has been diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome.
All the drivers in the class raced with a white hood during the weekend to the
hopes that the public becomes more aware of this condition and additional
research funds can be obtained to eventually find a cure that inflicts
approximately 1:15,000.
