The Future Is Bright - The Future Is Orange?

Coventry, August 16, 2010: An Orange invasion threatens to upset the status quo in the BriSCA F1 Stock Car World Championship weekend at MCM Coventry Stadium on Friday the 3rd and Saturday the 4th of September.

Not since 1955 - when Polish emigree Jerzey Wojtowicz VC lifted high the World Final trophy - has anything like a European name appeared on the roll of honour. In fact, the nearest the trophy has come to going out of the country was when Scot Jock Lloyd won in 1961 - at the time, he lived in Middlesex!

The latest Coventry press release on http://www.coventrystox.com lists a whole host of Dutch drivers who will be racing throughout the weekend; no fewer than eight have qualified for the World Final.

In years gone by, the Orange order have not posed as great a threat as they do on this prestigious occasion. With new venues like Emmen in Holland giving more drivers the chance to race on dirt tracks; plus greatly improved car preparation by ACON drivers, these Dutch competitors have been honing their skills, in a determined effort to make their presence felt at World 2010 at Coventry.

Not only the Dutch, but also the New Zealand contingent is looking to make a serious challenge for the top prize in BriSCA F1 Stock Car racing in the UK. Kiwi Scott Joblin looks like a good outside bet.

Reigning NZ 240's Champion Scott has gone to the trouble (and great expense) of shipping over his own F1 stock car - built to BriSCA specification by no less a car builder than Clive Lintern, who emigrated to New Zealand some years ago.

Lintern was an innovative stock car design & build ace, who championed 1980s superstar Nigel Whorton- and it is the Whorton family who are giving Scott the support he needs to be another force to be reckoned with in the 2010 World Championship Final.

Meanwhile, every driver on the 36-car grid will be targetting the highest step on the presentation podium.

As seen on TV in "Gears & Tears", UK rivals and champions of the sport, Andrew Smith and Frankie Wainman Junior will not take these challenges lying down. . .

Defending Champion Andrew is going for three World Finals in a row, only the third driver ever to do so if he succeeds, while FWJ - who has been National Points Champion on 13 occasions - has a few scores to settle as far as winning the F1 World is concerned. He trails his rival by 2 to 4 with his name on the solid silver trophy - so maybe all those overseas entrants won't get a look in after all.

The only way to find out who does what to whom, who lifts the trophy, champagne and laurels on the biggest night of the year in the BriSCA F1 stock car calendar, is to be there:

Coventry MCM Stadium, Rugby Road, Brandon, Coventry (turnstiles open 3.00pm); Advance discount tickets available until midnight on Saturday 21 August; For full details and to book online, please visit http://www.coventrystox.com, or contact the Stadium on tel 02476 545721.

A unique time for nostalgia, to mingle with the stars of a bygone era, all included in the admission price.
