Supporting The Auto Industry In Toronto
TORONTO--This morning Chrysler Group LLC announced a $27.2 million investment in its Toronto, Ontario casting plant, which produces front and rear crossmembers. Located underneath the motor vehicle, these essential components provide significant structural integrity to the vehicle.
This investment will help retain 280 jobs and keep the Toronto plant from shutting its doors.
Ontario's unprecedented support to the auto industry along with its five-year Open Ontario plan is positioning Ontario as one of the leading North American jurisdictions for auto manufacturing.
"The past few years have been tough for our auto industry and our auto workers. Our government stood by them, making some difficult decisions to ensure that the auto sector had a future here in Ontario. We're pleased to see signs of recovery and new investments being made in our province," said Sandra Pupatello, Minister of Economic Development and Trade.
"This is great news for our community, and for the 280 workers at the local Chrysler casting plant who now know that their jobs are secure. We look forward to continuing our long relationship with Chrysler in Toronto," said Laurel Broten, Member of Provincial Parliament.
