Rochelle Claims Career First Late Model Victory and Thunberg Wins Again SSP Saturday Night

Newberrytown, PA (August 14, 2010) - Schnecksville's Jason Rochelle, a veteran Legends Cars racer turned Late Model driver this season, picked up his first career big car victory at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday night. The Street Stock main event found Myerstown's Scott Thunberg claiming his second straight win of the season. Lancaster's Donnie Broderick earned his eleventh Xtreme Stock Car victory of the season in a hard fought battle with Mike Zeigler Jr. Harlon Leppo won his second of the year in the Legends Cars at SSP in the 15-lap event. York Haven's Daryl Sipe bested Robert Fryberger to earn his sixth Mini Van feature of the season.

Jason Rochelle started outside row one and grabbed the early lead in the 20-lap Late Model feature event over polesitter, Bob Minnich. On the third circuit, Bob Minnich spun on the inside of the frontstretch. This moved Justin Ehrhart into the runner-up spot and looking for his third straight win of the season. On the restart, Rochelle continued to hold onto the lead by sailing around the top side of the track with Ehrhart challenging on the bottom. On lap 8, Larry Baer and Jake Jones threw their hats into the mix to create four-car battle for the lead. Through a few mid-race cautions, Rochelle continued to hold onto the top spot. On lap 14 Jones moved into the runner-up spot and attempted to challenge Rochelle for the lead. A late race caution with one lap to go set up a 4-car shoot-out for the win. On the restart, Rochelle continued his perfection on the cushion to pick up his first career Late Model win. Jake Jones finished second with Ehrhart grabbing third from Larry Baer on the last lap. All-time SSP victory leader, Carl Billet rounded out the top five.

The 20-lap Street Stock feature began with polesitter Brett Pickel and George Eash running side-by-side for the lead for the first 3 circuits. Eash led the first three and then it was Pickel finally grabbing the lead on the fourth lap. In the meantime, Thunberg began to make his charge to the front from a sixth place starting position. On lap 11 Thunberg moved in to challenge Pickel for the lead and completed the charge coming off turn two to lead the 12th circuit. Two laps later, Marshall McMullen Jr. moved into the runnerup spot and made a run at Thunberg for the top spot. At the finish Thunberg held off McMullen to pick up his second win in as many races. McMullen had to settle for second as Brian Hauenstein finished third with Pickle and Bob Scott Jr. rounding out the top five positions.

Many race teams also participated in the annual Camera & Autograph Night where all cars and drivers were brought to the frontstretch to meet the fans. Drivers handed out photo cards, toys, candy and other treats to the fans. Thank you goes out to all the drivers and teams who made this a special night for the fans.

Cars, engines, parts and trailers may be available.

For those who will be attending to sell, we can advertise your items if you send an email to sspracing@hotmail.com listing the items. The listing will be included in a email release on Monday.
