BECKMAN PLACES FREIGHTLINER DODGE IN NO. 6 IN BRAINERD QUALIFYING
BRAINERD, Minn. (Aug. 14, 2010) - Featuring Freightliner Trucks on the Dodge
Charger R/T Funny Car he's driving at this weekend's 29th annual NHRA
Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway, Jack Beckman qualified No. 6
and will face Del Worsham in the first round of eliminations on Sunday. This
is the final event of NHRAšs ŗregular˛ season before the Countdown to 1
playoffs begin for the top 10 in points for the final six races.
Beckman, who races the Valvoline/Mail Terminal Services Dodge throughout the
rest of the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, set his quickest lap of
4.141 seconds at 295.34 mph in the final of only three qualifying sessions
held because of rain on Friday. That pass was the third quickest of that
round and followed a 4.189/294.69 on Friday (No. 8) and a 4.944/160.54
earlier today.
"I love when new people come to the race track," said Beckman, who entered
this event No. 4 in the point standings. "With the Freightliner group, we
have the VIPs, the all-stars of their sales staff throughout the country
here, and most of them have never been to a drag race. Imagine getting to go
to your first pro baseball game and you get to meet the players and hang out
in the dug-out.
"They got to go up on the starting line between the cars on that last pass,
so itšs awesome. I know everyonešs got a big smile on their faces. Wešre
doing a big promotion with them this weekend and we're having a big dinner
for them tonight. And, wouldn't it be cool to put those Freightliner folks
in the winneršs circle tomorrow?
"You know, (third in points) Matt Haganšs team did a great job in
qualifying, and they did something pretty important," added Beckman of his
Don Schumacher Racing teammate who is just ahead of him in the standings.
"They gained enough points to put us technically two rounds behind them for
third place. We canšt control other peoplešs points tomorrow; wešre just
going to have to manage our racing and our car.
"Išm confident. I think that we have the car that can win here tomorrow and
it would be so awesome to do it the one time that wešre featuring
Freightliner Trucks on our car."
