CAPPS EARNS NO. 7 IN BRAINERD QUALIFYING

BRAINERD, Minn. (Aug. 14, 2010) - Racing the NAPA AUTO PARTS Dodge Charger
Funny Car, Ron Capps earned the No. 7 starting position for Sunday's 29th
annual NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway, the final event of
the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series "regular" season.

With only three qualifying rounds completed this weekend, because of rain on
Friday, Capps recorded his quickest pass of 4.142 seconds at 293.98 mph in
the third and final pass. His other laps included a tire-smoking
6.139/104.70 on Friday (No. 15), and a 4.171/293.47 earlier today (No. 8),
the third quickest pass of that round. ³We were trying to run a 4.12 or a
4.13 on that last lap,² he said.

"I won't say we're in test mode," added Capps, who entered this weekend's
race fifth in points (46 behind his Don Schumacher Racing teammate Jack
Beckman, and 62 behind his other DSR teammate Matt Hagan), "but we're trying
a few things that we want to get accomplished before the Countdown starts.
They've done some great work at the track. They redid the asphalt here after
the concrete and did a great job. Like every year we come here, if the
conditions allow it, this track will hold pretty much any record run. And
tomorrow is going to call for cooler conditions, so you're going to see some
very fast racing.²

The Countdown to 1 playoffs begin following this race for the top 10 in
points in the final six events of the year.

"Weıre going to test in Indianapolis next week," added Capps, "but one great
thing about this race in Brainerd is that itıs really a last chance to move
up in position for the Countdown and that's what we are trying to achieve.
We have our two teammates Hagan and Beckman right in front of us and we feel
like if we have a good weekend we can move up in points a little bit.

"With this track in such good condition and the cooler temperatures
predicted for Sunday, I'm pretty excited for the fans because they're going
to see a great show tomorrow."

Capps faces Jim Head in the opening round of Sunday's eliminations.
