MONTH OF AUGUST WILL BE INTERESTING FOR THE JOE GIBBS DRIVEN RACING OIL AS MEMBER
TRACK NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
American Speed Association PR
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Thursday, August 12, 2010) - In short track racing, August can
be a turning point for the racing season. ASA Member Tracks could see changes in
their division point standings and the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track
National Championship could see changes in its standings.
At some ASA Member Tracks, the point battle is already heating up. A change in
the standings at the tracks could also shuffle the standings for the National Championship.
For example, Jeremy Miller has a four-point lead over Bobby Wilberg in the Late
Model standings at Madison International Speedway in Oregon, WI. Because Miller
is the track point leader his average falls within the group of other track leaders.
This week Miller has an average of 3.1779, which puts him sixth overall among the
leaders. If Wilberg was the track point leader, his average of 3.3810 would put
him in fifth and closer to the other top four.
Another example is at Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino, CA. Ron Daniel has
a seven-point lead over Jeff Peterson in the track standings. Peterson is on a
roll as he recently won his fourth feature of the year last Saturday night. Daniel
has an average of 3.4407, which puts him fourth overall. Peterson has an average
of 3.6043. If he was the track leader, he would third overall and not far behind
second place.
The one person that everyone is chasing is Rodney Cook, the overall leader from
Ace Speedway in Elon, NC. Cook has an average of 4.1540 and is still on a roll
this season as he has eight feature wins, three-second place and one-third place
finish in twelve events so far.
Not far behind Cook is Corey Jankowski, the current leader at Dells Raceway Park
in Wisconsin Dells, WI. Jankowski has an average of 3.6300 and has collected four
feature wins so far this year.
Bryan Wordelman from Rocky Mountain Raceways in West Valley City, UT is third overall
with an average of 3.4958. Followed by Daniel in fourth.
Thomas Hill from Meridian Speedway in Meridian, ID rounds out the top-five with
an average of 3.3523.
Along with the possible changes due to the great racing action at the ASA Member
Tracks, there could also be some shifting due to the secret formula that is used
to come up with the point averages in the National Championship. One of the factors
is that in order for the formula to work accurately, a competitor needs to have
at least 14 events on record. Some are close to that and could surpass 14 events
this month. Others will be catching with the number of events and could possibly
surpass that magic number in late August or early September. All of their events,
up until September 26, 2010, will factor into their average for the National Standings.
"Each race is going to be very important at each ASA Member Track from now until
the end of the season," Dennis Huth, ASA President said. "One hiccup could ruin
the dream for one driver and be beneficial for another. The tension will be high
at their shops as they prepare for their weekly event, and the tension will be high
at the track. This is just starting to get good and fans need to see this in person
at their local ASA Member Track."
You can review the standings at www.speednetdirect.com by clicking on the ASA Member
Track logo at the top of the page.
The goal of the ASA Short Track National Championship is to activate a measuring
system which takes into account many variables - such as field size, inversion,
wins and number of races in a season - and create a level playing field to determine
who is the 'best-of-the-best' of the ASA Member Track Champions nationwide.
Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil, sponsor of the American Speed Association National
Short Track National Championship, is the same oil developed and used by Joe Gibbs
Racing. The team sells the oil so racers across the country can have access to the
latest technology in racing lubricants.
Joe Gibbs Racing is one of the premier organizations in NASCAR, currently fielding
three NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams, two NASCAR Nationwide Series teams and a driver
development program. Based in Huntersville, N.C., and owned by Joe Gibbs - a three-time
Super Bowl winner as head coach of the Washington Redskins and a member of the Pro
Football Hall of Fame - JGR has competed in NASCAR since 1992, winning three Cup
Series championships and more than 80 NASCAR races, including three Brickyard 400s
and the 1993 Daytona 500.
The ASA Member Track program is comprised of dirt and asphalt short tracks along
with road courses around the United States, as well as a variety of regional and
national touring series. For more information, call (386) 258-2221 or send an e-mail
