Team JEGS / Pre-race Notes NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals Brainerd Int’l Raceway Brainerd, Minn. (Aug. 12-15) Jeg Coughlin Jr. enters this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals in Brainerd on a high note after reaching the final round of Pro Stock at the most recent NHRA national event, the Mopar Mile-High Nationals in Denver. Jeg advanced to his 101st career final before losing to Allen Johnson. Following the Denver event, Jeg is the third ranked Pro Stock driver in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series. Thus far in 2010, Jeg has recorded victories in Houston, Atlanta and Sonoma to go with his runner-up finishes in St. Louis and Denver. Racing in the Top Dragster class, Jeg also won the NHRA O’Reilly Midwest Nationals earlier this season behind the wheel of his brother, John’s 200-mph JEGS.com dragster. Jeg Coughlin has three career Pro Stock victories at Brainerd Int’l Raceway in 1999, 2002, and 2007. Jeg defeated Warren Johnson in the 1999 final and stopped Minnesota native Greg Anderson in both 2002 and 2007. Jeg was also the runner-up to Kurt Johnson at the 2000 Brainerd race. As a sportsman driver, Jeg also claimed the Super Stock title in Brainerd in 1997, beating his then teammate Jeff Taylor in an all-JEGS Mail Order final round. Jeg has also clinched his spot in the Countdown to the Championship, NHRA’s six-race playoff that determines the season champions. Just ten drivers from each professional eliminator are seeded in the Countdown standings. The Brainerd event will be the final race before the points standings are re-set for the start of the Countdown to 1. In 11 career appearances in Brainerd Jeg has a round win record of 21-8 in Pro Stock competition. Jeg’s average qualifying position in Brainerd is No. 8. His best qualifying effort came in 1999, when he was No. 3. Jeg has qualified in the top half of the field in five of his 11 appearances in Brainerd. During his Pro Stock career, Jeg has recorded 463 round wins while incurring just 212 losses. He has failed to advance past the opening round just 66 times. In 16 races in 2010, Jeg has qualified in the top half of the field 14 times and has not been seeded lower than 11th at any race. Jeg Coughlin is a four-time NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Pro Stock champion. He earned season titles in 2000, 2002, 2007 and 2008. As a sportsman driver, Jeg also claimed the NHRA Super Gas championship in 1992. In 2009, Jeg enjoyed one of his best years as a professional racer winning seven of 23 events and reaching the final round in two others. He compiled a round-win record of 50-17, the second best record in the class. Including Brainerd Int’l Raceway, Jeg Coughlin has won at least one NHRA national event at 21 different facilities. With 51 career Pro Stock wins, Jeg ranks fourth all-time among Pro Stock drivers. Only Warren Johnson (97), Bob Glidden (85) and Greg Anderson (62) have more titles. In 276 career Pro Stock races, Jeg has reached the final round 82 times, recording 51 wins. Including his 14 sportsman victories, Jeg has won a total of 65 times, good for ninth place on NHRA’s all time wins list. During his career, Jeg has appeared in 101 final rounds, 82 as a professional and 19 as a sportsman racer.
