SCOTT DOMINATES TOYOTA/TRD 100 IN EMOTIONAL, CAREER-DEFINING NIGHT
Â
PINE GROVE, CALIFORNIA (August 2, 2010) – Racing in tribute of Art Garrett, 18 year-old Matt Scott of Pine Grove, Calif won the biggest race of his young career by dominating the TOYOTA/TRD 100 for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Models at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif.
Â
Racing against a field with talent from both the SRL SPEARS Southwest Tour and NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, Scott claimed his fifth career fast-time and eighth career Late Model victory.
Â
“This meant the most emotionally as our good friend Art passed away a few weeks ago,?? Scott said. “This win was for him.??
Â
Scott qualified on top of the board with a 13.811 second lap around the one-third mile asphalt oval. The lap was just .002 seconds faster than former track champion Eric Schmidt.
Â
After a six car invert, Scott and Schmidt started side-by-side on the third row. Scott methodically worked his way forward, and leapt from third to first on the lap 34 restart.
Â
Schmidt chased down Scott, taking over the lead on lap 40. They ran side-by-side for multiple laps before Scott finally broke through on lap 46.
Â
Scott led all the way through the 63 lap green flag run to take a comfortable and dominating 2.8 second victory. He lapped up to ninth place including previous race winner and SRL champion Jason Fensler.
Â
“That was incredible,?? Scott said. “Schmidt is one of the best shoes out here by far. I think we rubbed wheels once or twice but that was it.??
Â
With the victory, Scott has accumulated 24 top-fives and 40 top-tens in 46 career Late Model starts. He opened up the weekend on Friday afternoon by taking his first laps in a NASCAR K&N Pro Series West car. In just two short sessions, Scott had the car dialed in within a few tenths of the field.
Â
Scott also made a media interview with a local cable access sports show before climbing into the #35 Chevy for the 100 lap main event.
Â
Scott now leads the NASCAR Late Model points standings at All American Speedway by 66 points with seven races left to go. He is also continuing to run in the top-five in the NASCAR California State points as well.
Â
Late 2010 and early 2011 plans are being formulated now for the talented Amador High School graduate. Sponsorship and media inquiries can be forwarded to Steven Blakesley at steven@norcalmedia.com Matt Scott Racing is looking for sponsorship to continue its championship run.
