Racer Michael Roman Establishes Land Speed
Racing Record at Loring Land Speed Event
Limestone, ME (August 2, 2010) Amputee race driver Michael Roman wasted little time at the
2010 Loring Timing Association Land Speed Racing (LSR) event when he posted a record-
setting speed of 166.011mph on the site of the former Loring AFB in Limestone, Maine this past
weekend.
Roman, at the controls of Bionic Motorsports Wounded Warrior Project Special presented by
Boston Scientific and PEAK Performance Products, was ecstatic over the teams maiden voyage
at the challenging 1.5 mile Loring venue. For 2010, we have virtually a whole new set of
challenges as we have completely changed our motor to a turbocharged Steve Johnson Racing
motor which puts us into a new class with higher speeds, stated Roman. We started out this
weekend with the goal of testing and tuningour Lakester and we were quickly able to
establish the Loring Land Speed Racing J/BGL class record with a speed that our car has never
reached in competition. Roman s record-setting performance at Loring was his sixth Land
Speed Record and his first in the J/BGL class.
Mike and his Bionic Motorsports Wounded Warrior Project Special, sponsored by Boston
Scientific, PEAK Performance Product and Snap-on Tools, now have their sites on attacking the
J/BGL Land Speed Record at the 2010 Speed Weeks from August 13 through August 21 at the
historic Bonneville Salt Flats, where Mike established the current World Land Speed Record in
the J/GL class in 2009.
On behalf of his sponsors, Mike will give over sixty speeches this year highlighting the release of
the documentary . The film follows Mike s journey through chronic pain and
instills hope in others that it is possible to recover and chase your dreams. Mike also
participates in numerous Wounded Warrior Project Soldier Rides and events in support of the
thousands of injured U.S. veterans who are embarking on their own roads to recovery.
and his team expect to undertake numerous television, radio, and print
interviews in support of the Wounded Warrior Project Specialand all the veterans this
endeavor seeks to impact.
