Ehrhart and Palm Jr. Claim Feature Wins at SSP Saturday Night

Newberrytown, PA (July 31, 2010) - On one of the best prepared tracks in the history of the SSP, Dover's Justin Ehrhart did his patented backflip off the roof of his car in victory lane after winning the 20-lap Late Model feature event at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday night. The side-by-side, sometimes three and four wide action continued in the Street Stock feature with Jim Palm Jr. of Loysville picking up the victory. Tim Hahn of York won his first Xtreme Stock feature event of the season while Andrew Frye of Etters won the XSC Elite feature event. Paul Bacchus won the PENNMAR Vintage Car feature and Daryl Sipe of York Haven was declared the Mini Van winner when Butch Richcreek was disqualified for failing to report to post-race technical inspection.

The Late Model feature event began with Tommy Slanker taking the lead and setting sail in search of his first career Late Model victory. Slanker was challenged numerous times by Ehrhart who tried the middle and bottom of the track. Unable to make the pass on Slanker for 12 laps, Ehrhart was finally able to make his move on the 13th circuit. Behind Ehrhart, a wild six car battle for second place ensued between Slanker, Jake Jones, Larry Baer, Bob Minnich, Chris Knopp and Charles Potts. At the end, Ehrhart picked up his second feature victory of the season with Jones finishing second and Slanker garnering the third place podium finish. Baer and Knopp rounded out the top five. Heat race victories went to Slanker, Minnich and Potts.

The 20-lap Street Stock feature had polesitter Jeremy Becker grabbing the early lead. His lead only lasted for one lap as Jim Palm Jr. moved into the top spot on lap 2. Becker mustered up a strong challenge and took command of the race once again on the fifth circuit. While Palm and Becker swapped spots early in the race, Doug Bennett patiently waited in the third position. Palm battled back into the top spot thee laps later on the 8th circuit and did everything he could to distance himself from the rest of the field. Bennett then moved into the runner up spot on lap 10 and began to track down Palm. With the race going non-stop over the last ten laps, Bennett was unable to make a pass on Palm as Palm collected his first victory of the season. Becker completed the race with a strong third place run. Scott Thunberg was the hard charger of the race coming from a 15th place starting spot to finish fourth, Jimmy Slaseman rounded out the top five. Heat race wins went to Bob Scott Jr. and Brian Hauenstein.

On Sunday, August 1, the final round of the King of the Hill Series featuring the Small Block Modifieds, Sportsman Modifieds, and exhibitions with the 600 Modified Series and the EMMR Vintage Cars was postponed due to weather. A makeup date will be announced in the near future.

Racing action returns to the SSP Outback Track on Friday night, August 6 at 7:30 p.m. featuring quarter midget, kart, lawnmowers and Adult Speedcar racing action. This race is part of the 2010 Summer Shoot-Out Series. Racing begins at 7:30 p.m.

Racing action returns next weekend to the Big Track at SSP on Saturday night, August 7 with an annual "Picnic in the Pits." On the racing card will be the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, XSC Elite, PENNMAR Vintage Cars and Mini Vans. Racing begins at 7:00 p.m.

The times are from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Any racing related items may be sold new or used from go karts/quarter midgets to full-size racecars and everything in between. Cars, engines, parts and trailers may be available.

For those who will be attending to sell, we can advertise your items if you send an email to sspracing@hotmail.com listing the items. The listing will be included in a email release on Monday.
