Webber wins 4th race in Hungary

BUDAPEST, Hungary- Taking full advantage of a safety car period, and a mistake by his teammate Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber continued to have an impressive season as the Australian took complete domination of the race and went on to win the Grand Prix of Hungary at the Hungaroring by 20 seconds over second place Fernando Alonso in his Ferrari. Vettel, took third.
“The start was very tricky and we jumped in the first slipstream on the first corner,?? commented Webber. “It is difficult to make any moves on this track, it was not surprising to see Fernando (Alonso) appearing with us. Then we had the safety car and we changed strategy.??
Vettel went out to lead the race from the start, and picked up a gap of eight seconds, until the Force India car of Vitantonio Luizzi lost a left wing plate onto the track on lap 15. Many cars dived into the pits, but the situation was very chaotic, and this led to a mistake of Robert Kubica getting let out too quickly by his team, and was struck by Luizzi’s teammate, Adrian Sutil. Both cars were out of the race laps later from their damage. When the safety car pulled off the track three laps later, Vettel was too far behind the pace of the safety car, and was penalized for his efforts, which put the German into third place. Webber assumed the lead on lap 35, and stayed out for many laps, keeping the fastest time of the day, until Vettel broke it on the very last lap of the race.
Felipe Massa made up for a rather quiet day, by finishing in fourth, while rookies Vitaly Petrov and Nico Hulkenberg had their best finishes of the season in fifth and sixth positions, respectively. Sauber drivers Pedro De la Rosa and Kamui Kobyaschi  finished seventh and ninth, with defending world champion Jenson Button sandwiched between them in eighth. Rubens Barrichello just finished tenth, after just getting by seven time world champion Michael Schumacher laps earlier.
Webber knew he had the race won, but the problems were having the right tire choice.
“We were asking a lot of the option tires.?? He said. “We knew we were 20 seconds fast, but in the end we knew we had the race in the bag.??
The formula one season now takes a  four week break, before resuming at the fast and long Spa Franchorchamps circuit on August 29th.
