Eric Ruppel - TORC Oshkosh Race Report

Rupe Continues to Push for Second
Championship - Wins Round 7
Chetek, WI
(July 26, 2010) - Consistency wins
championships and after the show Eric Ruppel and his #837 Super StockPhil's Inc.
Art Carr Transmission Halama Synthetic
Ford F-150 put on at Oshkosh, the title looks to be a two truck race. In the
first six rounds of racing Eric Ruppel has finished in the Top-5 five
times. The weekend of racing at the
Oshkosh Speedzone saw Eric continue his consistent ways.
The night
time event in Oshkosh is actually the third visit in the last three years for
the TORC Sportsman competitors. The 2010 edition saw a completely new layout
that included a large tabletop jump and a long rhythm section that was rather
harsh on all the Super Stock Truck racers.
Round 7 saw
Eric line up in the seventh spot due to the starting inversion. Even though the
stadium style track was short on length, and fortunately the Phil's Inc. Ford
there was plenty of room for passing. The fourteen lap race had its share of pushing
and bumping but it all
came down to a three lap duel between Eric and the #817 of Mitch Dorr. Dorr was
in the lead with Eric right on his bumper. Lap after lap Eric tried
unsuccessfully to make a pass as the two headed down the front stretch. The
final turn of the final lap saw Dorr spin his tires a little too much allowing
Eric to dive to the inside and finally making the pass stick. This was Eric
Ruppel's first victory of the year.
"Can you believe
that finish!" exclaimed Eric Ruppel. "I knew if could get under Mitch early
enough I might get enough speed to win the race to the finish. It just worked
out. The BFGoodrich tires really made the difference tonight."
After going
through post-race tech inspection, the pinion bearing locked up, leaving the
truck motionless. Fortunately the bearing failure happened after the checkered
flag. The next morning the team went to work replacing the ring and pinion as
well as all the usual between race prep work.
Round 8 saw
an overflowing crowd in the grandstands as the Heavy Metal Super Stock Trucks
lined up for battle. This race saw the white and blue F-150 use every inch of
the track. Whether it was to make a pass for position or just avoid a
collision, wherever Rupe need to go, the #837 Ford responded perfectly thanks
to the Deaver Springs and King Shocks. The race saw quite a bit of contact yet
Eric avoided the majority of the incidents. The finish saw Scott Beauchamp take
the win, Mitch Dorr coming in second, and Eric Ruppel in third.
"Our team
had a solid performance this weekend," noted Eric Ruppel. "The motor is going
back to Wolverine Performance to get freshened up for the final two weekends of
the season. We are just four points behind Scott (Beauchamp) and the team will
need everything we got to bring home the championship."
After eight
rounds of racing Eric Ruppel is currently in second place in the TORC Super
Stock Truck Championship, just four points behind the leader, Scott Beauchamp.
Next Race: August
14-15 in Bark River, MI.
