WHITELEY, GASPARRELLI TAKE WINS FOR NHRA PACIFIC DIVISION

SONOMA, Calif. (July 26, 2010) - Jim Whiteley and Steve Gasparrelli grabbed the wins for the NHRA Pacific Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event that was postponed earlier in the year at Firebird International Raceway in Chandler, Ariz., The event concluded for four of the racing classes this last weekend in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Divisional event at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.
Whiteley of Grand Junction, Colo., beat Chris Demke, Sunland, Calif., in the Top Alcohol Dragster final with a lap of 5.291 seconds at 267.48 mph. Whiteley went on to win the Lucas Oil Infineon Raceway event on Sunday as well, holding off Shawn Cowie of Delta, B.C., CAN., for his second win in two days.
Gasparrelli, West Covina, Calif., won the Top Alcohol Funny Car event title with a 5.600 second, 258.76 mph lap in his '09 Mustang against Mark Woznichak of Ontario, Calif. This was Gasparrelli's first win of the year in two final rounds. He was the runner-up at the recent NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways near Seattle.
Woznichak went on to win the Infineon event on Sunday against Joe Lombardo Jr., Brea, Calif.
Ryan McClanahan and Larry Gilley also made the long wait worth it, taking home the Firebird International Raceway event wins in Super Stock and Stock respectively. McClanahan, Alta Loma, Calif., also competes in the Stock class and now has 5 wins between the two classes in 2010. Gilley, Hilmar, Calif., ran down Toby Lang in his '69 Dart for the win.
