BECKMAN SECURES NO. 9 IN DENVER QUALIFYING

MORRISON, Colo. (July 24, 2010) - Piloting the Valvoline/Mail Terminal
Services Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car, Jack Beckman earned No. 9 in
qualifying for the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway,
located just outside of Denver.

Beckman recorded his quickest pass of the weekend, a 4.251-second run at
290.51 mph, under the lights on Friday night, which followed a tire-smoking
5.708/123.94 (No. 9) earlier that day. His Saturday passes were a
6.722/93.52 (No. 8) and, finally, a 7.390/93.97.

"We're better than this and we're struggling right now," said Beckman, who
was runner-up to his Don Schumacher Racing teammate Ron Capps last Sunday in
Sonoma, Calif. "A lot of it is coming to mile-high Denver, which requires so
many changes in the tune-up that sometimes you wind up chasing just the fuel
mixture on the car for several runs and you get behind. And right now we're
behind.

"We dropped a cylinder right at the step on the last run and that was
definitely the session where we could have moved up. So, we're frustrated.
We should be in the top half of the field, but this is where our runs put
us.

"We have (No. 8 qualifier) Ashley Force Hood tomorrow in the first round.
It's a whole new day. Hopefully, the data that we got will help us figure
out how to get down the track tomorrow. And Ashley and her team were not
much quicker than we were on their best run (4.247/280.84).

"We have definitely stormed out of the bottom half before. So, our backs are
against the wall, but we're pretty good fighting that way."
