After Opening Denver Qualifying in Eighth, Line Looks to Move Up
Event: 31st annual Mopar Parts Mile High Nationals
Location: Bandimere Speedway, Morrison, CO
Day/Date: Friday, July 23, 2010
With temperatures hovering in the high 80’s on Friday at Bandimere Speedway, Summit Racing driver Jason Line and the rest of the Pro Stock contingent were challenged by more than the thin air during the first day of qualifying for the Mopar Mile-High Nationals in Denver, CO. As expected, elapsed times and top speeds were significantly slower than at other tracks on the circuit, although competition among the “factory hot rods?? remained extremely close.
Sitting eighth after his 7.050-second, 196.24 mph best in the evening session, Line looked to take advantage of the cooler temperatures forecast for Saturday and better his starting position during one of his remaining two attempts, as well as refining his driving style as required by the unique conditions on the mountain.
“Although our second run was better than our first, we still left a lot on the table, which we will work on for tomorrow,?? said Line. “Of course, if the forecast for tomorrow proves to be correct, these times will mean little, because we should be able run significantly faster. We just need to make sure we have the right tune-up in our Summit Racing Pontiac.
“Driving here at Bandimere is different than at any other track. You have to shift quicker, with the shift light coming on faster because you have a lot of gears stacked to get the car moving. It’s just something that takes a couple runs to get used to, and by Sunday you try to be back in a rhythm. It’s all part of the package racing here in Denver, so we’ll look to get everything working properly tomorrow.??
