West Lebanon, NY: Another hot and steamy night at the legendary high banks at Lebanon Valley Speedway had plenty of action as Rifenburg Construction drew a full crowd to witness the racing action.
A slight rain shower slowed the start of the evening by just merely a moment or two as the racing got under way on a ‘heavy’ track. The marquee event hit the mighty Valley of Speed for their 30 lap feature event.
Kyle Sheldon powered his #518 out front early and began to take charge until the field was slowed by a caution. Contact between the #14 of Lorne Browe and the #20 of Matt Quinn caused Browe to spin towards the inside Jersey Barrier coming out of turn 4.
The green flag put the field back under way with Sheldon out front again. But just 2 more laps clicked off the Kokosa Oil
Inc Lap Counter as contact with Ryan Larkin and Paul Gilardi hooked bumpers and had to be cut apart.
After a brief delay the green flag flew again. This time, Sheldon was being dogged by last weeks winner Eddie Marshal on his #98. And by lap 9, the #518 began to lose the handle, and faded. Handing over the top spot to Marshall.
Andy Bachetti was charging through the field as he broke into the top 2 by lap 20, but had nothing for Marshall who had firm control of the lead. A late race caution put Bachetti right on the heals of the #98, but Marshall was strong, and he just took off for the last 5 laps.
At the checkers, Marshall scores the back to back win. Bachetti crossed the 2nd followed by Donnie Corellis, J.R. Heffner and Kenny Tremont Jr.
The Budget Sportsman 20 lap feature event took to the speedway with the #09 of Kevin Lynch out front early. There were a few cautions early in this event, but Lynch held on to the top spot until Whitey Slavin’s #53 charged by on the top side in turn 3 on lap 11.
Then, it was all over by the crying as Whitey Slavin scores his first win in the Budget Sportsman. Kevin Ward crossed the line 2nd, Bobby Knipe was 3rd followed by Kevin Lynch and Rob Knipe to complete the top 5.
In the LV Sportsman, Alan Houghtaling passed Danny Sanchez on lap 14 to take over the top spot for the final half dozen laps to take the win. Sanchez settled for 2nd, Jeff Watson charged from deep in the field to cross the line 3rd, while Chad Pierce and Kolby Schroder rounded out the top 5.
In the Pro Stock 20 lap feature, the fan favorite #243 of Victor Hopkins got out front early and held on for all 20 clicks on the lap counter giving Victor Hopkins his first career Pro Stock victory! Chuck Towslee, Jason Casey, Paul LaRochelle, and Jon Routhier battled to complete the top 5 finishers.
In the Pure Stocks, over 40 cars were on tap for 3 feature events. The winners were Joey Morey in Pure Stock #1, Jeff Wilber in Pure Stock #2, and Bob Palmer goes back to back to score the win in Pure Stock #3.
The legendary high banks gets converted this week into a car smashing obstacle course for the USHRA Monster Jam Summer Nationals on Monday through Wednesday. Then its back to the racing summer action with NBT Bank and Snap On Tools present another $3,000 to Win Modified Feature along with the return of the King of the Track Series. There will also be an Accord Speedway King of the Catskill’s Qualifier for the Budget Sportsman, while the 4 cylinders will be on tap as well.
